gross misdemeanor charge

Hi,

If I was charged with a Gross Misdemeanor for failiure to yield to a school bus, how would this affect my application chances. Funnily enough, I ran this on a bike(so its not like I sped past a school bus).

However, I am not sure if this is on my record as the police officer did not make it very clear. How would a gross misdemeanor affect my chances at top colleges (ivies, top liberal arts colleges) w stats and EC okay? (I already got into one safety, SUNY Binghamton)

Failure to yield to a school bus resulted in a Gross Misdemeanor by itself? I am not a lawyer or offering legal advice, but something does not add up.

Usually that is just a ticket and big fine. Did you run over a kid?

@JBSeattle injured one

Ok, unfortunate but now the story makes more sense.

@JBSeattle how should I report this to colleges?

Well, if I were an admissions Officer I would not accept you. Fortunately for you, Ivy League Universities do not consult with me on a regular basis. If they ask you about it, you should just tell them the truth.

“how should I report this to colleges?”

You say, “when I was XX years old, I was riding my bicycle, and I wasn’t paying attention, and carelessly passed a school bus with flashing lights. I hit a child with my bike. This resulted in my getting xxxxx misdemeanor. I remain extremely sorry about this. I did XXXXXXXX for the child and his family, to show I was sorry. Furthermore, I did xxxxxxxxxxxxxx and xxxxxxxxxx and xxxxxxxxx on my own to try and show responsibility and show others that even riding a bicycle one must always be aware of your surroundings and especially be careful around children and school busses.

to or something like that. And I hope you did go way beyond whatever the official punishment was.

Thank you @Materof2! This just happened a few weeks ago so I’m still trying to make up for it

I hope that colleges have some forgiveness-- I’m in traffic school now(didn’t know about these laws and basically any traffic laws before hand)

Are you in traffic court by choice or by sentencing?

Call the court house and see where you stand. Were you found guilty? Can the record be expunged?
