Do 7th graders applying to Groton for 8th grade take the same Upper Level SSAT that 8th graders applying to 9th are expected to take? If so, is there an allowance for lower scores given the test covers areas of Math most 7th graders won’t learn until 8th or 9th grade? (Also: Are there many II Form kids who are repeating 8th grade?)
A lot of the second formers are repeats. That said, so are a lot of the new third formers.
Do the current applicants for admissions into 8th grade take the middle level SSAT? Why do you think there are many repeats— they want to repeat 8th grade from another boarding school, or just applying again because they were rejected first time? Did you attend second form there?
@Golfgr8 I came this year in fourth form. Though I can’t be sure, I think many people see second form as a chance to repeat; they might apply to other schools for ninth. Also, as was mentioned on another thread, 13 is young to leave home.
As for the SSAT quirks, I’m not sure. I think you take the level of your current grade.
Groton, second form, took upper level SSAT because also applied to freshmen slots at other schools at the same time.
