I have just applied to Groton and I really can't afford to pay for much of the tuition if I get in. So basically...if I get in but get no financial aid, I can't go. I'm afraid the school won't see that we need the aid and not give us any. So what I'm asking is, how lenient is Groton when it comes to financial aid?

I also have another question… I am constantly thinking about Groton, it is really starting to bug me. Does anyone have any strategies for keeping the decision letters off your mind?

I’m a little confused by this statement. Did your parents submit the PFS and all other FA materials? Are they unusual circumstances where their income may make it seem like they can afford it but they actually can’t? If that is the case, then they should submit a letter of explanation, though I don’t know if it will help or not. I don’t think Groton will admit a student without needed aid. In other words, they may waitlist or deny rather than admit without aid. Please note: I do not know for a fact that this is their policy, but I’m fairly certain that is the practise.

As for your second post question: Try to keep busy. Are there books that you haven’t had time to read? Do you play an instrument you can practise? Do a top down, pull everything out, deep cleaning, reorganization of your room. Throw yourself 100% into your current school work or research something on your own if you don’t have a challenge at your current school. It’s hard, I know. But March 10 will be here before you know it. Are you applying for 8th or 9th grade?

I’m applying for 8th grade. And yes it will seem like we can afford it but we really can’t. Also, I don’t know if this is what you meant, but the financial aid and admission processes are completely separate.

Thanks for the tips on how to keep busy, I’ll try some of them.

In a section of the financial aid application, you can explain your story. They will understand the circumstances of your situation then.

All i can think about is groton as well, im going to be upset if i dont get in… I probably won’t but…im hoping. I can’t concentrate on my school work till i know!!! if school wasn’t so easy my grades might have slipped.

I totally agree BlueRaven1…

groton141, I can’t seem to take my mind off of Groton and the decision letters, either! Recently, I embarked on a complete cleaning of my room, and that seemed to help a little bit. It took me a few days, and although it may seem like a small thing, it really did help me. Basically, just try to throw yourself into other things to get your mind off of school. I also started practicing piano a LOT more, and not only have I improved, it was also something else to get my mind off of Groton.

Thanks to everyone for giving me suggestions and thoughts. I will definitely try all of your strategies. Good luck to everybody who is applying anywhere. And hopefully I will be seeing you in the fall synchroswimmer and BlueRaven!
