GS Housing for Couples

This is just a shot in the dark but does anyone know about the 1 bedroom dorms on campus for couples? Where are they located? What are they like? And when you get housing will financial aid cover it? I've never lived in NY, so I have no idea what to expect and I can't find much information on the Columbia GS housing website for the 1 bedroom units....

Well, I can start off by telling you that the housing isn’t on campus. As a general rule, you can expect to be within five blocks of it. Though, there are glaring exceptions to this (ex., the Arbor building which, depending on traffic, is approximately a 45 minute shuttle ride away).

Couples are housed in studios. Generally speaking, it’s reserved for married couples or those who can prove past cohabitation. Whether or not it’s always the case, studios seem further away from campus. The quality varies. These aren’t dorms. Consistency in design or comfort shouldn’t be expected.

Will financial aid cover it? Not exactly. It depends on the housing that you get. Some buildings will bill your rent along with your tuition, student life fees, etc. Some will bill you monthly. If you’re billed monthly, expect to pay your rent on the first - just like any other apartment. Also, expect to pay double the montly rent (first month plus security) upon reserving your place. If it’s the former, expect to pay your rent along with your tuition.
