I was wondering if those who are currently living in Columbia's UAH could share some insight on what the chances are to get UAH housing for us who are applying for the regular decision deadline?

GS itself states that demand exceeds supply, but are there any estimates? How many students do get housing? Also, if not possible to get housing for the first semester, is it possible to get housing at a later time when apartments free up? I am still finalizing my application, so this is worrying me bit. From what I read and hear, housing seems very limited, and is served on a 'first come first serve' basis.

So any numbers, estimates or personal experiences are highly welcomed.

There’s a couple of good threads on this topic, Patrick. I’d suggest doing a search for more info. In the meantime, I’ll say that it’s really tough to identify trends in UAH. We share UAH with GSAS, the law school, med school, the b-school, etc. It’s all pretty wildly scrambled together and, with room transfers and so on, it probably changes dramatically from year to year.

Basically, if rooms are available, they go to the first people who have applied for them, who are also coming from the furthest away (Alaskans rejoice). If you have ever lived in UAH before and looking to come back, you are moved to the bottom of the list. UAH forgives but it never forgets.

It might be possible to get housing later. But, as per the first rule, if you’re already in the New York metro area and looking to move into UAH, you might be moved down the list.
