GSA president

okay, so my application doesn't mention anything about being gay or anything.

But this year I got elected the president of Gay/Straight Alliance. This is my first year is GSA. SO I will pretty much only check 12, and put president for my position.

My concern is that I think Princeton is too conservative. I am scared that the adcom might not like me for being GSA president.

DO you guys think putting this down will help me or hurt me?

If anything, it will help. First of all, it is a leadership position, regardless of what group it is. Second of all, Princeton is looking for more diversity of all kinds. Princeton has a pretty small gay population, from what I can see, and anything that sets you apart is good.

it's a legitimate concern, and i think if u asked one of their adcom members, they'd answer they wouldn't care about sexual orientation, but what they say and what they do are two different things, because there are always backroom politics and biases - you could get a homophobic 1st reader...

The possibility of homophobic adcoms is almost non-existent. Look at www.dailyprincetonian.com for reviews of the recent Drag Queen contest.

Princeton is the most conservative ivy....but then again that's not saying much.

I would be really surprised if they turned someone down because of their sexual orientation....I hope that Princeton is more accepting/tolerant than that.

It will help, as long as you are being truthful.
