Every year, from our school, Princeton accepts at least one student.

The student who got in two years ago now has a position of secretary in the class of '06. And a friend of mine who got in last year decided not to attend due to a better offer from a Canadian university (he was offered
$ 30000 US/yr as fin aid).

Anyways, since this is the case, would this guarantee that there will be at least one student who gets into Princeton from our school this year as well?

nope. You cant guarantee anything. If Pton doesnt find the applicant it wants from ur school, then they couldnt care less. They accept only those people whom they feel are good, and does not have any obligation to accept from the school continuously...my 2 cents

thx for the reply. ya,, that's what i was thinking too.

Of course not. Princeton doesn't have quotas.

The only way to get in is with personal merit. The fact that students from your school have gotten in in the past has nothing to do with the name of the school, but rather the degree to which each student has taken full of the educational opportunities provided at the school. Of course, top schools (like yours, I'm assuming) provide a substantial amount of opportunities, but some students still don't make the the best of them. So, the answer is actually a combination of yes and no. While it is very unlikely that you're getting in solely because you come from _______ Academy, if you've TRULY taken FULL advantage of everything your top school offers, then, like the other five thousand of us, you've entered the lottery.

Briefly put, you just can't rely on your school's history to get you in. If that was the case, then NOBODY from the lower end of the economic spectrum who goes to an inner city high school with a 50% dropout rate would EVER get into Princeton, and we all know they get in all the time.

I can't believe you considered the very existence of a such a monstrous quota...

ya... well, I though that Princeton would recognize the school since they have been accepting students from our school consistently. But, anyways, I agree with you, they wouldn't consider an acceptance of an applicant based solely on the academic history of the school

On the flip side...does this mean princeton doesn't accept any more than 1 from your school each year? See, so the quota you just made up doesn't exactly work in your favor. Better to think of it in terms of personal merit, as has been said before.

Well said. That's my $0.02 too.

At the same time, I would see it as a definate plus that Princeton obviously knows your school and the calibre of the students there. At least you know you're in the running.

You say calibre instead of caliber? That's so cute!

yes, I am guaranteed acceptance you see my hirth certificate was stamped "HYPS" and I was branded at birth.

Ummm no, not really but one can still pine

semp - i am stamped HYPS if my last name was Bush, Kennedy or Clinton.

MacroKim, where u from? what school do u go to? im from BC as well.

How about if your last name is Rockefeller? They go/went to my school and I think two have gone to Princeton? not sure

I'm pretty sure there's a special dorm room reserved for Rockefeller's...

Probably a huge suite? lol

naah...not a suite....its probably a mansion or something off campus with a daily chopper service to the uni...

haha. I think it's actually in Rockefeller College... I remember our tour guide pointing it out, it was one of the two room suites, and when John Rockefeller gave a bunch of money years ago, he stipulated that there always be a room reserved for a Rockefeller. Well, that was all fine and dandy until the next Rockefeller came... and he was a boy... and that special Dorm (the suite has like, marble floors and a chandelier, supposedly) was all girls... and this was before co-ed housing. Well, they had to give it to him... so that Rockefeller had the pimpest pad that year, for sure.

I heard that story but I don't think it was about the Rockefellers, I think it was a different donor.

In any case, it's crazy ;)

I wouldn't mind if my last name was Rockefeller. Sure, I would be filthy rich and would have to tend to the family business(es) and all that jazz...yada, yada, yada...

but imagine how awesome it must be to learn bout ur great grandad monopolizing the oil industry in ur US History class, hehe...

(isn't it hilarious how I left out all the wonderful perks one would get from being a Rockefeller, and chose to focus on the most irrelevant of benefits? :D)

...crickets.....mmmk....

(tough crowd) :-
