As I start to gather information for round 2, I wanted to ask if any of you could suggest guidebooks on various boarding schools, that you can really sink your teeth into? I ordered one online, and was so disappointed. It had none of the schools that I am currently looking at. Taft, Bellmont Hill etc. I marched right back to the bookstore, but there was someone I knew lurking in a nearby aisle, and no, I did not want them to know what I was up to. :)

May I ask what book you purchased? I am thinking about buying Best of the Best by Ruben A. Gaztambide-Fernandez.

It was, “American Boarding Schools” by Celeste Heister. It was geared towards international students. Incomplete!

By the way Alex, and others, I just recently left a posting on a thread entitled “Best CC parent” or something like that. Check it out.

Have you investigated your local library? I’m a natural cheapsk… ahem, naturally frugal. Our local public library participates in the interlibrary loan system, so I’ve been able to read many books for free. Our library also has an online portal, so I’ve been able to run online searches at night. Your library might have these services as well. I have no fear that our local librarians would betray a visitor’s confidence. They’re a sterling lot.

In general, I assume that any guidebook published within the last 5 years will be accurate enough for my purposes. Another good resource is any friend or relative who’s seen a kid off to boarding school. They may be willing to lend you books from their library.

A very good resource is The Handbook of Private Schools, published by Porter-Sargent. [Porter Sargent-Independently edited references for Private Schools, Special Needs Programs, Summer Camps and Summer Schools, and Study Abroad](http://www.portersargent.com/hps.php) Our local library had a copy.

Pulling up the Amazon listing for any of these books also pulls up “customers who purchased these books also bought,” which may include more recently published books.
