Hi All,

Can you point me to some links/threads that outline how our appeal is supposed to be put together, or what it is to consist of? This is for UC Berkeley.

Thank you.

Hi All,

Can you point me to some links/threads that outline how our appeal is supposed to be put together, or what it is to consist of? This is for UC Berkeley.

Thank you.

drop

What could you possibly be ready to appeal? They don’t even start looking at the apps for another month or two.

I’m just trying to be proactive! I’ve heard that we can submit letters of recommendation, but I have no idea how the overall structure of the appeal is put together.

I am very positive about my chances, but if for whatever reason, I get rejected, I want as much of my appeal put together and ready so that I can mail it off ASAP.

I’d rather spend the next few months getting together my documentation, than scramble like crazy in Spring.

I dont have any links off hand, but I do know that AskMsSun offers services to help you get a great appeal together. Since Im such a borderline case, I’m assuming I’ll get rejected from my top choices so I will definitely be using her. She charges a reasonable fee, I forget how much it is, so maybe one thing you could do now to prepare for an appeal is start setting aside a few hundred dollars so you wont have to scramble for money in May.

I would also definitely ask for letters of recommendation now before your professors forget who you are.

Thanks for your response Shannon13. I will try and review some past posts by AskMsSun to see what she is all about…as for the letters, yes, I am trying to set up appointments with old professors who promised me recommendations.

It’s a bit early to be putting together an appeal, isn’t it? :P

Also, iirc, last year when rejections started going out the typical answer to “should i appeal” was to call the school first and find out why they didn’t accept you. Which would probably be helpful in the appeal process. You can also search for “appeal” in this section to see all the tips from last year, there are tons of threads on it.

Letters of rec: Certainly doesn’t hurt to get them now.

I’m resurrecting this thread, as my question hasn’t been fully answered. Basically, when you appeal, do you create a cover letter and attach your backup information (letters of rec, etc.)?

Could someone who has been through this process tell us how they submitted it (by mail, by email, through website?) and how it was structured (cover letter, documentation, etc.)?

Thanks.

There are at least 150 better things you could be doing than preparing an appeal to enrich your life and prepare you for Berkeley, like reading up on topics you’re about to study.

Pessimism disguised as preparedness is still negativity.

From what I’ve read, you write a short statement with new and compelling information. Attach the new and compelling information. Then you mail it. The rate is less than 3% iirc. Like shannon13 said, askmssun has a blog page on it and offers an appeal service.

Thanks Emprex, I get the gist of it now.

I appreciate all the offers to view askmssun’s blog, which I did, but I started this thread to assist myself and others with doing the appeal ourselves.

If anyone has some first-hand knowledge, please respond with your experience, thank you.

The appeal process is different for each campus (some want electronic only, some want snail mail, etc). Go to Berkeley’s website and try to find specific directions there, I doubt anybody here has first-hand experience with appealing to Berkeley.
