Gunnery, Canterbury, Millbrook, Kent, Wooster

We'd love some information about any of these schools as a possibility for day-student (10th grade) who is moving to the area (ie/Litchfield/Fairfield/Dutchess county). How selective are admissions? How are the academics (and college admissions track records) for these schools? social/athletic, etc. other information. Any current or past students/parents who could offer insights?
Thanks in advance

My nephew went to Wooster and hated it - transferred out junior year to the local public school. I think the problem was mainly that it was really small (his whole grade had 35 or so students in it) and full of cliques. My sister (his mom) went there and loved it BECAUSE it was small and you to know everyone well so it depends on the student. They just got a new Headmaster who is highly regarded and I think a good Headmaster can really change a school for the better. But it is a small school - I think 160 or so kids in the high school - so you'd have to wiegh the pros and cons of such an institution.

Gunnery, Canterbury, Millbrook and Kent are all great schools. Please, do your self and your child a huge favor and shelve Wooster.

ops -- What have you heard about Wooster that makes you feel so strongly against it? I know people who send their children there now, and they are happy with the school.

I heard that there's a new headmaster at Wooster. Will he make a difference??

I have a child at Wooster -- we're quite happy despite the size.

The new head is an incredible man with a wonderful background. I know parents from his old school who cannot say enough good things about him. There is also a new Upper School head in her second year that's an amazing ball of energy.

My son transferred in to the middle school at Woo from what's considered by many to be an excellent public school and we find the teachers at Wooster put the public school educators to shame.

We looked at Salisbury, Deerfield, Choate, Loomis and Kent for our son for high school ... but decided to stay at Wooster. We also looked at GreensFarms and St. Lukes for local day schools and prefer Wooster.

The OP needs to visit and see the campus and the atmosphere -- check out the fit.

Still hoping for feedback about Gunnery, Millbrook, Canterbury and Kent. Thanks to all who offered thoughts on Wooster.

My son graduated from Kent School this May, and he loved it. As parents, we were very pleased as well. Strong academics, beautiful campus, really nice kids, approachable administrators and faculty, and a solid (but not overbearing) religious commitment all combined to make it a great experience. I have a daughter who attended St. Mark's, which was poor by comparison.

Ed, if you would be willing to elaborate on the difference between your family's experiences at the 2 schools and how one was "poor by comparison" I think it would be helpful to others, even those who are not considering these 2 schools
