Hey guys,

I'm having a major dilemma. I have been accepted into both Northeastern and University of Maryland College Park for business and cant decide which to attend. I would be paying instate tuition for UMD (aprox. $23,000 cost to attend), however, NEU has given me a $20,000 scholarship making cost to attend around $35,000 per year. NEU is #1 in Co ops and and is ranked higher in 2012 Business Week at spot 28 v.s UMD's spot 38. While the U.S. News ranks UMD in spot 21 with NEU at extremely high rank of 72. I don't know which rank to believe given the large discrepancy....

Additional Info.
-I hope to have a double major in economics and another bus. concentration.
-eventually plan to get and MBA or JD.
-Am a transfer from community college

ANY ADVICE WILL BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED!!!!! Please let me know if you need any other info.

Ignore the rankings, they do not mean much. Most AACSB accredited B school curriculums are very similar.

Here are the things that matter for B schools…

1) Do they place people in the type(s) of jobs you are interested in?
2) What is their placement rate for your majors of interest?
3) Where are they placing these people…locally? With national companies? With consulting firms? etc etc
4) What is the average starting salary segmented by major and perhaps type of industry?

Try to find their career placement data and compare.

Will you have to borrow the extra $12,000 per yr. to attend NEU? Is it worth it is spend an extra $48,000 ( or $24,000 if you are transferring in two yrs.) to attend NEU? Can’t you go to UMD and get an internship?

Go with University of Maryland. Its cheaper and overall better. 10 spot difference doesn’t mean anything.

Thank you guys! I think I’ve made up my mind. UMD it is :).
