Northeastern vs. UMaryland

ive pretty much gotten rejected from all my reach schools (still got BC and Cornell left lol) so im just thinking more and more about my safety schools haha.. at NEU i was accepted into the CBA Int. Business program, honors program, and for UMD i was accepted into Smith also with University Honors. I will be paying around the same each year for both schools, maybe 12-14k

im stuck between both schools because i visited both and liked them a lot.. and i know NEU's got the co-op program which im really interested in but ive also heard that UMD is real good with internships since its so close to DC.

any opinions ?? (prestige, etc.)

bumpppppppp

pleeeeease i need some opinions lol im having a hard time deciding between the 2

I think it’s the environment and area you prefer, both top amazing schools. University of Maryland has over 10,000 more students. I live around College Park and I have to say it’s a wonderful environment, but Boston is also a great place with lively city and huge population. In terms of prestigious business, Maryland ranks higher then Northeastern. I personally prefer University of Maryland, a lot of things going on there and a great area.

I made a similar decision between NU and wisconsin-madison. UW was higher ranked, and had a better reputation where I’m from, and it’s no Boston but the location is amazing. I think I couldn’t pass up living in cool brownstones in the middle of Boston, and getting to put off the real world for 5 years. In retrospect the decision was totally random and I would have been happy in either place.

I think both are great schools, co-op is pretty awesome but Maryland I’m sure also has great connections and a great reputation. I almost think Maryland might be a better academic fit for someone who applied to schools like BC and cornell, although I’m not in CBA so take it with a grain of salt. I think maybe you should consider the location, environment, social life, academics, opportunities at each school, and just go with your gut.

Ha, so basically I’m no help at all. That’s a tough choice.

haha yeah thanks for the replies, i actually visited both and i liked them both equally, even though NEU was obviously more city-based, it still had a decent campus and bosotn is real nice… but in terms of prestige i know UMaryland is higher but ive heard so many good things about NEU’s co-op program that im trying to think on which school will give me better job opportunities in the future… i guess part of the decision is gona be on money also, because NEU hasnt given me a final aid offer yet

Congrats! you got into my dream school (Maryland, i got rejected). I’d take it

I’m not sure NU has the distinct location advantage. UMDCP is just about 30-40 minutes away from both Baltimore and Annapolis, so although Northeastern is actually in Boston, Maryland has a ton of hotspots in very close proximity, including the two aforementioned cities as well as Washington DC and Arlington/Alexandria, Virginia.

Well, I’ve never visited Boston or Northeastern, but I’ve seen a bit of UMaryland.

The campus isn’t bad, and it has that typical college feel, I guess. However, should you go to UMaryland, you are very close to Washington D.C., which is a fantastic city. I don’t know how it compares to Boston, though.

i am having the same issue except it is mainly comparing BU with Maryland…

yeah i guess each school has its own benefits… NEU has the co-op program which is well respected, and your in the city in boston which a lot of people consider to be the ideal college town but UMaryland also has a beautiful campus, is close to DC, and from what ive read has more prestige

choosing between the 2 really is killing me though hahaha

omg okay i LOVE northeastern university
but mann that sounds like such a hard decision because umd has a good reputation as well! wow stressful :frowning:
ahaha personally i’d go with northeastern, but that’s just me because i saw the campus adn i was like LOVE<333 lol. soo yeahh, i’m pretty much saying the same as everyone else…i’m absolutely no help! haha. but good luck choosing!! [[i’ve never visited umd…so i’m pretty biased btw]]

Both are great programs and NEU is ranked pretty high for international business. NEU will undoubtedly rise in the rankings so I would go with NEU. Its campus is amazing and its close to everything.

hmm… does Northeastern have ACC sports? didn’t think so!

Crab cakes and football, baby!

Maryland is the only school that is ranked in the top twenty for party schools by Princeton Review and in the top twenty for public schools by US News (also ranked 8th best flagship in the world but I don’t remember the source).

But I don’t know much about Northeastern.
