Is it more common for a female or male to be valedictorian? I know in my school, girls usually take the spot. But, does it mean anything to be the highest ranked guy if you're below a girl? (I'm fourth in class, first guy --- wondering if that is good to see from admission standpoint

At my school, the top 10 is 7 girls and 3 guys with 1,2, and 3 being girls. I'm almost in the same position as you, number 2 amongst the guys. I have no idea about admissions, I just wanted to comment on that similarity.

At my school, valedictorians for the last few years have been guys. I don't think that there is a large difference between guys and girls if you look at a large sample of schools. I also don't think that colleges care or even have any way of knowing if you are the 1st guy.

girls do better than guys on average, but at the way top guys are a little better. for example, males get better grades than females at princeton, but if you go to Arizona State the girls will be whooping on the guys.

aaron, probably the same exact situation at my school out of about 230

Most of the honor roll students in my class are female. I think the top ten are all female with a probably two males at most...I think there might only be one.

lol i bet more girls are valedictorians but guys have higher test scores.

yeah my school has way more girls near the top than guys, and last year I think I noticed the valedictorian was a girl. Of course my school weights classes when determining rank so I think it's a little more fair in how the ranks are represented (then again the weighting ignores many fine arts like band) so and girls still come out on top. Currently I'm tied for 1st in my sophomore class of 456 with like 4 girls and 1 other guy. Of course only sophomore class so there's plenty of chances to fall out of the running.

at my school its only guys.....i'm guessing its due to the fact that its an all guy school

At my school the top three are guys and i'm number one. From there down there is like 4 girls and three guys to round out the top ten.

One thing I do know when it comes to male v. female intelligence is that when it comes to IQ females tend to be more average than men, while men tend to have more outlyers toward the top and bottom end of the spectrum.

This is why what choklitrain said is true, at princeton a high end college there will be more males with higher intelligence, but at a more average school like arizona state it will be more even.
