Seems like I'm not the only one with a huge dilemna between two good schools...Thoughts? I'm going to be an IR major by the way

As an International Affairs major I feel, and felt when applying to colleges, hard pressed to go anywhere but to DC. The opportunities that are provided by GW's location in Foggy Bottom are hard to pass up for anyone and almost impossible to pass up as an IR (or IA in this case) major.

For one of my IA classes I am going to the CATO institute to hear a lecture on remedying trade laws. This past week I went to a small event on the development of Democracy in the Middle East featuring ambassadors from Morroco, Egypt, Qatar, and Tunisia. Not too mention the lectures on campus given by President Jimmy Carter or the President of Pakistan. Also because of GW's location I have been able to intern at an International Security Management Association conference and meet ex-directors of the CIA and FBI as well as the leading developers of security technologies and all of this has been in my Freshman year.

Thanks sethlyon,

Since you are an IA major, I was wondering if you could give me any input on the GCRs at GW...Do you find them helpful to your major or a burden? Also, about how long does it take to complete GCRs? Would I have to complete them before I started on my Major Reqs?

The GCR system is pretty flexible. You're given a heading to complete (Math/Science for example) and given many options to complete it. Depending on how many prerequisite classes you complete or get AP credit for, you can start on your major requirements. It all depends on how you want to take it. For one semester, you can take all GCRs. Another you can take some GCRs and some major reqs. It all depends on how you want to schedule your course load at the semester.
