I'm trying to choose between Rochester and GW for political science and I have NO idea what to do. For political science, DC is perfect, but GW is kind of big for me, and I also feel like there would be a ton of competition in the political science department since so many people there are government obsessed. Rochester is the better school, but it's much further away and I also feel like there's much less going on there (in the city of Rochester and also within the campus life). I also hate the cold, so I'm really unsure of being somewhere where it snows so much. Can anyone offer some insight? ANY input is much appreciated.

Rochester is has one of the most renowned Political Science Department around. Lots of schools like Chicago and Stanford are very far from DC and boast better Political Departments than DC schools like GWU & American. This is the same case for Rochester.

Just because a school is far from DC does not necessarily mean that they do not offer the advantages DC school will give. Political Science students at Rochester regularly immerse themselves in Rochester City politics and the department has a program that sends kids to DC during the summer.

My advice is this: make your decision with money in mind, go with your gut feeling and also consider the strenghts and weaknesses of your schools. Do your research on the academics and compare.
