hey everyone!
so i've been accepted to all three of these schools, and i've found myself in a huge fit of indecisiveness. I want to study international affairs, and I'm having a lot of trouble deciding between these three schools. I know they're completely different, but i'm trying to build an opinion from a student's perspective (not just the word from the admissions office). I really would love a preppy/hipster/intellectual type atmosphere, but other than that i'm totally split.

anyone? any sort of input would be greatly appreciated!

they all great programs. really depends if you want to be in a city or not for access to internships during the school year. if you go to uva you’d just intern in dc or somewhere else during the summers.

also, class sizes at GWUHP are smaller (than uva) if that’s something you’re into. you become very close with your “cohort” of UHPers

really can’t go wrong either way. i don’t know much about bowdoin

Here’ my take - It depends on where you “see” yourself in 10 years!

If you are thinking Government Service, NGO’s, Think Tank’s/Lobbying Firms - GW. Can’t beat DC for access to all these during your undegraduate years. Plus the SEIA’s is highly rated.

Bowdoin, other than freezing to death, is one of the best LAC’s in the country. I suspect your education there will be 1st notch. I’d consider there if you more likely on an Academic path.

UVa is somewhere in the middle - Did some post-graduate training there - absolutely beautiful campus, great academics. Internships will only occur during summers where competition is intense from all students around the country (Advantage GW here).

Either way you can’t lose - Usually, if you visit all of these schools - you schould pretty much get the “feeling” where you want to be the next 4 years!.

By the way - IMHO - you’re looking at a Grad Degree in this field for a real job.

I’m also a little confused about the 3 choices - these schools cover the entire spectrum of colleges - have you done some serious thinking and discusion with your parents, counselors. Usually by now, you should know if you want a small, medium, or large school - urban-non-urban, etc.

CJ

Hands down GW, if you’re international affairs. We have only 1 of about 9 specialized IA schools in the usa.

P.S. GW definitely has preppy/hipster atomosphere. Check out gwhatchet newspaper or collegefashionista.com and look up GW.
