GWU University and Alumni Award

Hello! I am new to the college confidential community but I was hoping there would be someone who could help answer my question. As part of my financial aid package to The George Washington University, I was given $19,100 labeled as “University and Alumni Award” for the 2017-2018 school year. My question is, is this guaranteed for all four years if I end up choosing GWU, or is it different than the Presidential Academic Scholarship that I received, and is not a set amount of money for all four years?

Any input would be much appreciated!!!

Welcome to CC

the information that you need is right on the school’s website

As long as your family’s income/assets remain relatively the same, you should be eligible for the same amount of award.

Do you have and siblings currently attending college? If yes, when that sibling graduates, your demonstrated need will change and you can lose the scholarship.

Do the two of these scholarships cover all of your tuition?

Is GWU an affordable option for your family?

sybbie719 thank you for answering! The academic scholarship I received was 20,000. I also was given a federal work study in the amount of 2,500 and also federal loans (which my parents do not plan on accepting). Basically as of now, I have $41,600 which brings the tuition down to about $27,000 a year which is doable for my parents.

For my freshman and sophomore year, I will have my older sister in college, and for my junior and senior year, I will have my little sister entering college. Since I will always have a sibling in college at the same time as me, do you think that will help keep the rest of my financial aid package relatively the same (and like you said, I don’t think my families income will change)??

Also, on a side note, do you think it’s worth attending the school with this uncertainty in money?
