So when I graduated high school about 50% of the graduating class had A averages (honour society) and 10% had A+. When my younger brother graduated his class had 40% with A averages (honour society) and about 15% with A+.

I'm in Canada. Do these grades seem inflated to you guys?

Going by US standards, which may or may not be right for Canadians...I would say that they are pretty inflated*, but that many other high schools are just as bad about it.

*Assuming that there is not some weird factor skewing the grades, like a culture of a large percentage of any difficult class dropping the class and thus what would have been bad grades not being counted.

in Canada we only count the top 6 classes out of a possible 8. However, most people only take 6 because thats all thats needed. What percentage of people get A's and A+ averages in America?

I remember only the top 10% had A average back in my high school. There were no such things as A+ in my school, only -A or an A. It really depends on the school most of the time. I was fortunate enough to go to a very competitive high school where most of the students in honor courses or AP courses had at least one parent who were a professor at my university in my hometown. There was another school I heard in my hometown where an A didn't mean anything. I think it was one of the worst high school in my hometown..
