I graduated in the top 20 of my high school class and worked really hard to get into the UC I attended. Unfortunately, the transition from high school to college did not go well at all and I had a huge fixed mindset. I was in difficult classes for a major that I didn’t want to study, but was forced to study because of family pressures and everything was a huge mess. Additionally, I had the added pressure of knowing that I was already knee-deep in debt and felt as though my time at that school wasn’t worth it. As a result, my grades were terrible my first quarter and I was already in consideration for Academic Dismissal. Winter quarter came along and I retook one of two classes I had failed and managed to raise my GPA to a 2.24 and return to good academic standing. Had I stayed at the UC school, I could’ve retaken the other class and raised my GPA more, but I no longer wanted to stay and withdrew.
I’m now in community college and doing incredibly well, now studying my major of choice, which is Political Science. Now, I’m in a pickle in terms of when I should transfer, considering I “took a quarter off” AND switched to a school with a semester system. By the end of Spring Semester, I will be done with my IGETC requirements, most of which coincide with my major requirements, and I’ll have a total of 37 units (including credit from UC + AP’s). I’m unsure of whether or not I want to finish off my requirements immediately to get out of CC ASAP or take small unit increments + classes that are major-required, but not IGETC required. The thing is that if I apply to transfer now, I wouldn’t have had the chance to re-establish my academic history and my app will be based off of my UC transcript + EC’s.
Also, I’m considering an ROTC program to help with my remaining years of college, but I don’t know if timing is right.
Sorry if this is long and confusing! I honestly don’t know what to do and my school’s counseling system takes MONTHS before I could even be eligible to make an appointment and college apps are going to be due soon.
Thanks in advance!
