Had essay trouble - got some help!

I'm new to this site. I saw that a lot of people expressed concern over their essays, and trust me, I have concern to. I just started working with this amazing tutor - a Harvard grad! - and I feel like I have a handle on the whole thing now. See, it's all about making your own voice come through while displaying your gifts and achievements. If anybody is interested her email is - meklein@post.harvard.edu She works with me through Skype and e-mail.

But I was wondering, and I should really ask her this, but when you have a choice on college essays to write about diversity or just write a general personal statement, for an applicant like myself who isn't the biggest fan of writing, what is the better choice?

Thanks!

It depends on which you can handle in a more interesting way… I think the diversity topic is good because it gives you limitations to work within, which forces creativity, but if you have something you really want to write a personal statement about, then you might as well, and it can probably be more places, too.

For someone who doesn’t like writing, I’d actually go with whichever one has the more specific prompt. You’ll have fewer decisions to make.
