Is anyone participating in the HAIL (Hometown Alumni Involvement Link) interview? I got an email explaining that it's a pilot effort and open to engineering applicants in Chicago/NYC/San Fran area and figured what the heck might as well sign up.

My interview is Tuesday and I'm getting kind of nervous. I keep telling myself it's more of a start-up thing and interviews don't really carry much weight anyway but I can't help but have anxiety. My interviewing/speaking to new people/articulating things about myself skills aren't that strong but I thought a Michigan interview might be more relaxed and a good practice opportunity for some harder/more formal interviews I have coming up.

So I was just wondering if anyone else is going to/already did interview? How'd it go? Did you bring your resume?

well for one it doesn’t count as much, if at all, so don’t sweat.

And to be honest, it is great to develop your interviewing skills if that’s not your strong suit. Gives you a leg up on your engineering student peers because the ability to interview/socialize/casually shoot the crap is very lacking within the COE.

I have personally been through a lot of painful dinners/interviews with top COE candidates, but not so much with kids from business schools like Wharton and Sloan. I never recruited Ross but I suspect the typical top Ross candidate is a lot more presentable socially as well.

Point is, if interviewing/socializing isn’t in your toolbox, ADD IT. It will pay dividends and help you stand out among your engineering peers who generally aren’t good at it.

My son’s interview is on the 23rd. Good luck, let us know how it goes.
