36-2903 definitely applies. That's a good one to know.

Curious minds can access it at http://www.e-publishing.af.mil/shared/media/epubs/AFI36-2903.pdf, by the way. ;)

some of those guys look wild.

that 30 second bun...is it ok if it turns out messy?

I'm not female and my hair's never been in a bun, but knowing the AF, I'm gonna bet that the rule says "neat and orderly." ;)

Nope can't be messy! Practice makes perfect... Basically twist your hair into a coil at the nape of your neck, wrap a couple of hair ties around it, and then bobby pin it in place. Has to be an actual bun, not a messy bun.

Can the long metal covered strip that bends be used to make the bun? Used it l through MCJROTC with no problem, but can it be used at USAFA BCT? Can you help, Redhead?? ALO told us we had to be able to french braid our own hair and then put it in a bun. No can do, tried. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Actually, I did get yelled at for the three inches in bulk. That's what you get for having your hair cut on I-day and really thick hair. That and it's usually noticeably uneven when they cut it :(

how short would you suggest getting it cut? shoulder? just below?

Chin length is what they give up there. I know under normal circumstances it can't be longer than the bottom of your collar or something.
I personally will never let those people touch my hair ever again. Unless anyone knows if they give proper haircuts during the academic year?

During the academic year, hair and haircuts are really up to you.

I'm a bit bummed out. There is practically no way my hair will be able to fit in a bun by I-day. There are just too many layers. :( I believe I'm going to get it cut short before I go so I won't have an uneven haircut!
