~Hair~

I know this question is convered a billion and two times, but I dont understand it completely. I know that your hair ( for girls) can never touch the collar of your uniform, but this can also be avoided by putting it up in a bun. I know you can do that after BCT, but what about during? do they make you cut it off, or can you just throw it in a bun the entire time?

As long as it's within regs, you can keep your hair longer. At orientation, one of the female cadets told us that you need to be able to put it up in under two minutes; it needs to look neat and stay out of your way. That's what I'm planning on doing. :)

If you plan on taking two entire minutes to put up your hair in the morning, your classmates waiting for you in the hallway will not be very happy...

and if its like ours was, the girls were in a different hallway, so they already had to take time getting to our hallway while we had to wait cause we were right outside the guys rooms.

^^^^^^ emphasis on our elder's post. Us guys had to wait several times for our girls to get that done and it was not pleasant.

lol I'll sleep on my stomach with my hair already done. Will that help any?

Go for it. You'll be knocked out as soon as you hit the bed!

Excuse me... two seconds. :)

yeah, i figured you can hide it quickly with all the jokes you get about it ;) did you know your hair is the color of the best classes at usafa?

wait, so you really did dye it blonde? i didnt think you were going to do it... but i guess you did.

so when does red look blonde? i did say her hair color and not her hair color at heart ;) (j/k. i'm an actual blonde). and tim, so when did your color become blonde?

eh, golden blonde! (not mustard blonde...)

Hmm, I always did wonder why I didn't get to be in an RTB class, seeing as that would fit me (haha :)) but then I realized it's because gold is the best ever. And I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to dye my hair or not. I don't know if I'd be able to blend in because of my last name and the gesture that apparently now goes with it. Oh boy. :)

you're screwed anywho.

redhead- "get to be"? i think your loyalties may be a bit confused, midear! well..."gold is the best ever". ok. you're forgiven ;)

on the hair note- when do guys shave and how long does that take? i would think it would at least help to compensate for time the girls take putting up hair, i guess not though by what i'm seeing.

You'll have about 2 minutes, give or take, to get EVERYTHING you need to get done in the morning done. That includes getting dressed (in BDU's, and boots), brushing your teeth, and shaving, and whatever else it is that you do in the morning. The cadre usually tried to make us brush our teeth and shave though before we fell out.

But either way, you'll not be happy being first out there or being the one everyone is waiting on...

definitely understandable. the problem is, i have thick curly/wavy hair that will never stay out of my face if it's that short, and i know i'll get in trouble for that.

This is a conundrum--I myself am torn between a rational haircut and being stubborn and retaining the 2.5 feet of hair that I feel is "a part of me." Ha ha, but lame.

I like sleeping as much as possible, not getting in any more trouble, and hair does grow back...but, hey, do we get to have gel? Or something?

And 2 minutes total?! That's how long you brush your teeth!! Eww, these hygiene practices must be why everyone gets pinkeye, heat rash, and other fun stuff at some point during basic...

a small thing of gel was mentioned as one of the things you might bring to basic, i dunno if it'd be worth it or not. i'm thinking braiding it while it's wet at night, then all you'd have to do in the morning is the bun, that'd just take a couple seconds... i wouldn't mind chopping it, it'd certainly be easier to take care of, if i thought it wouldn't drive me crazy and constantly be in my face/eyes. i guess bottom line is, whatever we decide isn't the end of the world! lol our hair certainly won't make or break us during basic, and if i have to i can live with hair in my face for 6 weeks!

lol I take exactly four minutes to brush my teeth every morning. But I guess electic toothbrushes won't be allowed during Basic....
