@MissChewie, totally agree - it’s what makes Hamilton such a great community. Best wishes to your daughter!
Thank you, @Chembiodad!
I applied ED2 also! I’m really nervous/excited for decisions this Friday. The week feels soo slow.
Best of luck to you! My daughter is a nervous wreck too!
Accepted! Financial aid was great too!
D got in.
As a Jan.
I guess what goes around comes around.
But sad that my outburst was taken out on my kid.
and terrible financial aid.
Congratulations, @Jdoh8552. So exciting!
@4junior, congratulations to your daughter, too. But I know you were really worried about the Jan possibility. Does she know what she wants to do, or will she wait for April to decide? I would guess that the college does not know about your “outburst” on CC— unless you spoke directly with the college, too?
Accepted!
But no financial aid here either…
@TheGreyKing My guess is the college does know about my outburst. It’s interesting that they worded their rebuttal as ‘ONLY 22% of the Jans come from NY’. She’s well above the median for all metrics of admission.
At this moment D is happy she ‘got into college’. I want to give her that moment. She joined the FB group and she is reveling in having a positive outcome. She will wait for the RD results and see what other offers she has.
I find it interesting as Pell Grant level FA recipient they would offer this choice to her, as this is in contrast to what they state.
I’m just kind of shell shocked right now. It’s everything I didn’t want to happen.
@4junior— I am sorry. But it is good that your daughter is happy! Try to share her joy. She is right that getting into Hamilton is a great achievement!
As I recall, she was torn between Hamilton and Vassar. Maybe Vassar will admit her, and she will have some nice options! Or maybe she will revisit another choice that admits her with great aid, and she will decide that she will be very happy there. Alas, the wait is not over yet, which would have been nice, but that does not mean that your family will not be very happy on April first! Good luck.
And congrats to @classy99 and anyone else who will posting their admission!
@classy99 and @4junior, congratulations!
Do you mean that the need based financial aid outcome didn’t match the estimated family contribution from the NPC completed?
Thanks for the congratulations.
NPC said 0, but we’d assumed that was because it didn’t take into account all relevant information.
@classy99, understand as in addition to families that are in a divorced/separated situation or own a business/farm not being accounted for by the Net Price Calculator, they also recommend that at the time of application to inform the Financial Aid Office of any special circumstances.
Best wishes.
@jdoh8552, congratulations and our DD’s will see you on the Hill in August!
@4junior, while the Accepted Students for the Class of 2021 had a median 33 ACT / 1450 SAT, only 39% of those applicants at or above a 34 ACT / 1500 SAT were accepted. And we know the Class of 2022 will likely be higher, so a big achievement for anyone! Congrats again!
@Chembiodad I think your numbers are off. Think it is more like 60%+ admit rate for 34+ and 50% admit rate for 1500+.
But even with those numbers, they still they turn down a whole lot of smart kids!
@wisteria100, good catch, and yes those acceptance rates will likely drop this year with year with a 10% increase in applications - agree its tough out there.
International student here. I got deferred. Does anyone know what I should do now?
Regarding financial aid, because they consider the fall semester cost to be zero (because you can just sit at home or work instead of going to London with the majority of your classmates) they seem to calculate that your entire EFC of your first year of college relates only the second semester price. So, when you calculate that the full cost of a year of college is 25k (vs 60+) then they need to give much less aid and the biggest chunks are filled with loans and federal aid. There is no aid for first semester no matter what you choose to do, including the London program. This is not ‘meets full need’ by any stretch of the imagination. At this point in the process I am having a hard time putting a positive spin on this, it just seems so cruel. The FA office asked for detailed info a few days before decisions were released, they had a clear idea of our family finances. If they want to punish me for the things I said here, ok, I get it. But my daughter is collateral damage in this and that just seems antithetical to the ‘Hamily’ I have heard about. Truly I am not meaning to be snarky or complain, I am just literally dumbfounded.
@4junior, “There is no aid for first semester no matter what you choose to do, including the London program.” is not accurate for a student that is accepted for a Fall matriculation, so yes it may be unique to a Jan matriculation which has been previously discussed.
If the First Year Spring semester is able to be funded through a Federal Student Loan and Pell Grant that would seem to make sense as those will always be applied to the total cost of all subsequent years as well - agree the difference in the case of the First Year for a Jan is that the total is less, so institutional aid is also less, as expected.
That said, it would sound like an appeal may be the next step.
