Hamilton vs Holy Cross vs Colby: Student experience (LGBT especially)

Hi! My DC has been accepted to Hamilton, Holy Cross, and Colby, all of which they love, but I’m nervous about the social scene. We’re from the midwest + their siblings have all attended schools here, so New England is a little unfamiliar to us. DC is also apart of the LGBT+ community and I have not been able to find anything negative about these schools in regard to inclusivity or dating options, but I still worry. Do any former/current students or parents of these schools have experience or helpful information about the social atmospheres/environments?

Generally, note that issues encountered by T may be different from those encountered by LGB. That might also be true for whatever you consider to be in +.

Can only speak as a Colby parent, and of a first year at that. DC is exceptionally strong LGBTQ+ ally, and still figuring themselves out. An introvert, and not a partier. Quickly found a close friend group and been very happy with them. Gone to the occasional larger social event (e.g., Halloween) and feels fully welcome. Found 2-3 clubs and activities, with friends there. Really no issues and zero regrets on school choice.

Regarding Hamilton, it, more than most other colleges, offers dining and living options that are spatially and atmospherically distinct from each other. This availability wouldn’t mean that your DC always would need to seek out others with personalities similar to their own, but it would offer them the option of a social variety of their choosing as part of their daily routine.

Wishing your DC the best of luck in their decision.
