My DD’s know someone who got off over the weekend/will be joining them on the hill in the Fall
@hopefulmom123, unfortunately I don’t; I know the student is very involved in theatre. We have two DD’s that will be attending unless one gets off the waitlist at Middlebury, which seems doubtful at this point. Given the lack of postings, it seems like Hamilton has had very limited waitlist spots.
@hopefulmom123, do you have someone who is still hopeful or are they committed to the school they were admitted to?
Did anyone get off the wait list
An officer told me some students were accepted; haven’t heard back since
@sumaita7, our twin DD’s, who are both attending, heard a classmate got off the waitlist on the 16th. How long ago did you speak to admissions as I am a little surprised that they haven’t sent anything out to those still waiting?
I reached out on the 19th; hopefully they contact everyone soon!
@sumaita7, did they say that “some have been accepted recently” or did they also say they expect “others will be accepted going forward”?
Based on the timing of your conversation with admissions and that of the one kid my DD’s know who got off on the 16th and the fact that its been quiet since then, it may not be likely save a couple of summer melt slots.
They just said a few kids were accepted already
@sumaita7, fingers crossed!
Thanks!
@hopefulmom123, a huge congratulations and we’ll see you on the hill in August!
whew that must be a BIG sigh of relief, hopefulmom123. So glad for your family that it worked out!
any word? Never received an email stating the list was closed!
Am I the only one or Hamilton just finally released us all from their wait list… Because it seems the wait is over for me
Incredibly unprofessional admissions personnel this summer. July 7 Called to get waitlist update as the original waitlist letter says all decisions will be made by July 1. Was told they are in disarray and to wait a bit more but if hadn’t heard by July 14 to call and speak with the person. Called July 14 as instructed to be told the person was out of the office for the next few weeks. Asked what the wait list status was as its well passed the July 1 deadline and was told that no such deadline existed. Pointed out that it was in THEIR letter they sent to people on the waitlist. The person looked it up and confirmed it was in the letter but stated that it was a goal not a commitment. Asked if the list was closed and was told that anyone who called last week was told it was and to move on. Told the rude individual who wanted to argue every possible point that in fact I was told to call this week and was doing as instructed. Was told that there were a lot of new people in the office and they shouldn’t have told me that, they should have told me starting last week it was time to move on as the list was essentially closed. I asked if it was mostly closed or fully closed and was told that it was essentially closed. Again asked if essentially meant completely or still hope for one or two slots and was told to go to the next school on the list as Hamilton is done. Received the formal admissions letter saying the list was closed on July 18. Beyond FRUSTRATING and no concern what-so-ever that they missed their own deadlines, miscommunicated to people trying to get information and no apologies or care. Love Hamilton, not the admissions office though!
@Pondhopper, step back for a minute as many highly selective schools never sent out any notification regarding the use or closure of a waitlist. Unfortunately, yes schools have instilled a sense of hope in a process that used to be random at best, and at the same time students and parents are grabbing on too much. Best to stick with the rule that if there’s no outreach by June 1st it’s not likely and by July 1st it’s over.
Hamilton admissions set the process, Hamilton admissions said to keep in touch, Hamilton admissions kept saying to hand in there and then long after following their instructions got rude and FINALLY only on July 18 closed the process so thanks for your input but you got it wrong.
@pondhopp, you keep forgetting that a school promises nothing as part of a waitlist process; it’s a denial unless something unlikely happens. Everyone had a DS or DD who was on one or more waitlists, and everyone understands that if a school has a ~20% acceptance rate and one is waitlisted then their chances are less than 1% based on the total # of initial applicants - a waitlist is a denial that hits the lottery. Hopefully your DS or DD is matriculating at a school she or he is happy with.
