What happens if you hand in a paper less than a day late because you are sick? I had a paper due today, but because I have a sore throat/am generally a bit under the weather I didn't attend the class. I intended on giving it to the professor immediately after class (which is typically his office hours), but when I arrived at his office he wasn't there. I sent an apology email with the paper and cover sheet attached less than fifteen minutes after the class had ended explaining how I didn't feel well and was sorry I didn't submit it in person. This professor seems fairly lenient about things and I normally do well in the class, but at the same time I've never needed any kind of extension from him. Would there be any real repercussions? I could always go to the health center if he needed proof I wasn't feeling well (I just took one of those self help kits with throat lozenges and cough syrup :P).

It’s probably a better idea just to show up and hand in your paper and leave class rather than turning it in late. If your professor is lenient, though, then you may get lucky.

Every prof is different. Some won’t accept them at all. Some will dock a certain number of points. Some will not care if it’s only 15 minutes late. But it would have been better to e-mail it to him before class rather than after, even if you were unable to attend. There should be something on the class syllabus about turning assignments in late and what the penalty may be.

Depends on the prof. dude. Personally, i’d just go to class and turn in the paper or email it to the prof.
