Happiness @ brown?

Is it true that Brown students are generally laid back and tend to enjoy themselves and the college experience? Might Providence and the (absence of a) core curriculum have anything to do with this, or is it pretty much the students’ qualities?

i think its a vicious cycle (in a good way) of already happy, self-confident kids coming to an enjoyable institution-they sort of exacerbate each other to make for a student body that truly LOVES their school.
Seriously, what alumni gush more than Brown alums?

however many brown alumni say they dont fall that in love untill after they leave. My interviewer told me his friends at pton were much more excited to be there than he was at brown.

brown is a really happy place but it's also a very existential place. you constantly have the onus to make choices and (therefore assume responsibility). you are constantly confronted with multiple paths, forced to be actively self-critical and introspective. it often isn't until after people leave that they understand all the ramifications of their choices, who they have become, and even what they want most. i think this may be part of the reason why many alums truly fall in love on graduation day.

hmm, interesting point.
