Hard time finding schools I'd like- any reccommendations?

Hi,
I’m a current high school with a 3.8/3.3 GPA & a 31 on the ACT (from first try- it will probably go up). I have about three c’s that I’ve been dedicated to all through high school, tons of AP’s, and one sport that I played for a year until I got injured. I plan on majoring in global relations or English, but I’m very involved in my school’s art community so I would be interested in submitting a supplementary art portfolio to schools if anyone knows of any who accept them. I’d prefer a large, urban or suburban school that has a true campus vibe and is well-rounded (sports, greek life, vibrant campus culture, etc.). Can anyone think of some schools where I’d be a good fit? I love UT Austin but don’t think I could get in from out of state, so I’d be interested in hearing about similar schools. I’ve been having an unprecedentedly hard time finding schools that I like so I would really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Run the Supermatch engine on the left side of this page. Then check the Net Price Calculator on each school’s web site to see if your family can afford the school.

American? Pitt? U of Miami? Tulane?

U Alabama-Tuscaloosa, U Alabama-Birmingham, U South Carolina, U Tulsa, Elon U, Rice U,

Maybe College of Charleston?

I suggest you get your hands on one or two of the good college guide books (ex. Fiske, Princeton Review, Insiders Guide) and start reading. Also consider what your family can pay for college. Plenty of good large schools you would qualify for. A few ideas offhand…Tulane, Vanderbilt, Syracuse, USC, UWisconsin, BC,UArizona, UMiami to name a few.

Thank you all for the replies! Very helpful!

Take a look at Georgetown too. It meets all the criteria you mentioned. It’s nominally Catholic, but aside from a requirement that you take a single class on religion (any religion(s)), you won’t feel imposed on. Meanwhile, DC is a great place to be a student. Lots of interesting professional options in the public and private sector for an International Relations major. Decent weather. Vibrant arts scene too.

My interpretation of the OP’s post is that they have a 3.3 unweighted GPA (let me know if that is wrong). If that is the case, Georgetown is going to be out of reach.

Intparent: that’s correct, although I wish it wasn’t, LOL. Georgetown would be a dream.

I missed the GPA. You’re correct intparent.

Perhaps also Pitt and SUNY Buffalo

Many state universities fit that description. Start with your own state flagship (which, at in-state rates, usually will be much cheaper than OOS public universities). If money is not an issue and you want a less selective state university than UT Austin, check out the University of Colorado at Boulder.

^I was going to say the same thing. Where are you from? Your own state’s flagship - and possibly other large publics in your state - probably fits this description. Other than that, most state flagship universities probably fit this description, so picking an inexpensive one (like University of Minnesota, relative to other OOS options) or one at which you might be eligible for big merit aid (like Alabama) is a good start.

I’m from Illinois, but unfortunately UofI isn’t really up my alley because of its location (or lack thereof). Thanks for the help!

Uof MN-Twin Cities? Great cultural scene in the cities and a number of global companies based there.

I second UMN-TC  - not too expensive from OOS, too.
