Hard to get into Carlson as a transfer?

So I will be a sophomore this year and I am applying to transfer to UofM for Spring 2017. I am a business student, but being that they do not take business transfers in the Spring, I will be applying to LAS for Spring semester then applying to Carlson as a UofM student for Fall 2017 (junior year).

Is this something that is difficult to do? I have heard that they do not accept many junior level transfers at Carlson.

At the freshman previews they told us it’s very difficult; however, when I computed the numbers of entering freshman vs. the numbers of graduating seniors it didn’t seem to be as difficult as they were maintaining. My best guess? Carson is proud of its ranking and selectivity as a direct-admit program so they want as many to apply that way as possible, but if you have a high college GPA and meet their other transfer requirements, it’s doable. You’ll need to compute these numbers yourself to confirm or just ask them the number of transfers that happen each year. If you do your own calculations here’s a source of potential data for you:

The freshman admit rate is currently around 28% so use that as a benchmark for admission as a transfer (the actual rate would probably be lower).

You probably want a backup in case you are not admitted as a transfer. Since you are applying to CLA you need to be aware of the college-specific grad requirement of a second language, as well as the general ed. requirements. You should also get comfortable with the Plan B of majoring in something in CLA and minoring in business if it comes to that.

Good luck to you!
