How hard is it to get into popular classes at UVa., such as Larry Sabato's intro to politics and Julian Bond's seminar on the civil rights movement? The admissions officer bragged about having so many well-known, distinguished professors on campus, but she did not say how hard it was to get into their classes.

the really popular classes are hard to get. It's true at any school.

Can we get a list of popular classes then? Or would it be obvious.

The popular classes are the classes that are already filled. Ba-ZING!

The popular classes will be obvious once you get here. One really popular class is Professor Elzinga's section of ECON 201.

EDLF 555, Multicultural Ed is easy and popular among students..If you don't mind a liberal perspective, ANTH 225 is also a fun class to take. I don't have the time to list everything but I'd just wait until you arrive at UVa as the last poster stated.

most of the popular intro courses arn't hard to get into. they're all huge. elzinga's class is 500 students, and he'll expand it to as many seats as available in the lecture hall. sabato's class can be taken 2nd year if you really want (you register before all 1st years), and i doubt few, if any 3rd or 4th year students take the class.

<===Third year taking Intro to Theater in the fall.

How about transfers? It seems as though they would get the unwanted leftovers.

uvamalex,

i was simply referring to sabatos class. regardless, i have taken my fair share of intro classes as a 3rd year. my spring semester 3rd year had 3 classes starting with a 1...hhehehe

joe, transfers get orientation just like the first years so there are a few saved spots for you guys. Don't worry about getting the unwanted leftovers. 50% of your classes will be unwanted. Who wants Computer Organization and Design (ECE 435)?

jags, I know it's not unheard of for a third year to take a 100-level class, but I was going for the popularity of one class is so huge it takes a third year's amount of credit hours to get to register early enough to get the class.
