So I’m considering my junior year courses, and I have no clue what math class to take. The higher math class allows access into Calculus BC but is INSANELY hard and most people only get away with B’s or B+'s. However, there is another class that is also an “honors level course” and only allows access to Calculus AB. But the class is, in fact, easier and most people get away with an A or A+ in that class. What should I do?
What is your intended major in college?
How are you doing in math this year?
What does your teacher recommend?
What other classes will you be taking?
What is your GPA/SAT?
What kind of colleges are you looking at?
If you are non-engineering/math, then definitely go for the sequence leading to Calc AB.
If you are shooting for tippy top colleges and are majoring in STEM, then go for Calc BC.
If you are taking a challenging load and do fairly well in math it is your call.
No reason to take BC unless you just want to for some reason. You don’t even need anything after pre-cal. if you want the challenge go for BC, if not, take AB.
Seems like a variant of the “B in hard class or A in easy class?” question. The answer that colleges like to see is “A in hard class”.
Colleges will be 100% fine with Calculus AB. Tie the precalculus class that leads to Calc AB.
@ucbalumnus : no, it’s different. AP calculus is NOT an easy class.
