Harder to get in for Neuroscience Majors?

I'm considering going into neuroscience, and I love JHU. I just don't think I have a very good chance of getting into JHU in the first place. I've heard great things about its neuroscience department. Would being a neuroscience major make it even less likely for me to get in? Like a ridiculously small chance? I know you don't know my gpa or sat's, but this is more of a general question.

JustMaybe: Of course I don't know your stats, and I would never "chance" you, anyway, because college admissions are just too complex, and best left to the admission's committee.

Just let me say, that so far as I know, the criteria are the same for all majors, across the board. BME has a separate application process, I believe. But, aside from that, as I said, the criteria are the same, no matter what YOU THINK your major will be.

Remember, you will be going off to college, and having an entirely new experience. Doors will open that you had no idea could lead to new interests for you. You may very well wind up majoring in neuroscience, but something else might pique your interest. You never know. Don't pigeon-hole yourself in your mind. Keep it wide open. Make sure that the schools you apply to have strong programs, not only in those things that currently interest you, but in a wide variety of programs.

You can't go wrong with Hopkins, providing that you do have stats that will allow you to be considered by admissions. Hopkins has the most amazing programs, across the curriculum. I don't blame you for loving it!

You are aware that neuroscience is in the school of arts and sciences, and not in some other separate category? Best of luck.

Except for BME, you do not apply to a specific program of study when applying to JHU, so it is never more difficult to be accepted into one program over the other. And even for BME, since you may be accepted to JHU and not the major, it is only more difficult to get accepted into the major.

The applicant pool of Hopkins has many, many qualified applicants interested in all four of our academic areas: humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering. We do not have to "lower standards" to make our class academically balanced nor do we have to have "higher standards" for more popular majors. Additionally, since students can switch their intended majors at any time, we do not admit students to specific programs of study.

When applying to JHU you are applying to the whole school, so list the majors you are considering and complete your application. It is that simple!

One of my friends wants to become a neuroscientist and he applied early to Hopkins because he heard so much great things about the neuroscience program. He was accepted and he says he does no regret his decision because he knew what he wanted to major in and he wanted a school that was research intensive and could provide him with all the resources neccessary to be what he wanted to be, a neurosurgeon.

Yes, Neuroscience here is a great major that is both fascinating and exciting to concentrate in.

Thank you for your help everyone. I've realized that JHU is so great for neuroscience, that there would be no reason for me to choose any school over it, whatsoever. Throw in the beautiful (yet urban) campus, along with the amazing social experience (from what I here), and I'd have it made. I'm definitely applying early.
