BME vs. other majors

I was just wondering...
Is it easier to get in if you're applying to other majors than BME (if you assume that some of most competitive students are choosing JHU because of BME)?
Well... it seems quite hard to get into BME so it would be nice if it was easier for others :) ... Are they really accepting to the college people rejected for BME?

Yea....I have a similar question...

I applied ED to BME and Neuro...

Do I have the same chance of just being accepted to normal JHU as I would have had if I had only applied for Neuro?

Save BME, other majors have equal acceptance rates. It isn't necessarily easier to get into Hopkins with a different major than BME. BME is a separate program, meaning you can still be accepted into Hopkins and not the BME program. Therefore, the difficulty of getting into Hopkins is in general the same whether you apply BME or Biology.

^I kind of disagree. Isn't the BME program more competetive just based on the fact that it is the premier program, so ...I don't know what I'm trying to say. I guess I think BME is harder than the rest of JHU. My thoughts at least...

well, i don't think that's exactly what mdkeung meant. JHU adcoms evaluate your app with no consideration to your major. they accept you to the school first, regardless of major declaration. then, let's say you applied BME- THEN they will further evaluate you to see if you can make it into BME. so, applying BME will not hurt your chances of getting into JHU, period.

Oh I see. Silly misinterpreptation on my part :p

Well they use your major to figure out in what context they should evaluate your academic stats. If you want to major in science they are going to want to see some good science related stats on your application.

Hey take it from me...at orientation it seemed the WORLD was BME. My interest was neuro, but man I was getting swept away. Though honestly I stayed away from it...took my advice from engineers who advised me. "It may be hot now, but if the world decides they don't like it anymore...instant layoff." Always a place for old-fashioned doctors. Though that road can certainly drag along. However, the program is pretty cool as it stands now. A lot of my friends have good stories to tell, and most found that they were admitted. Good luck with whatever you choose.
