Hardships for a US Student?

Due to McGill U having a reputation of providing a great experience in an amazing location, i've found to to hover at the top of my college list. However, I have tons of concerns, mostly stemming from the lack of information ive been able to find for US students. I don't believe my academics are good enough to get one of those academic-based scholarships, but I would be in great need of financial aid in order to be able to go there, has anyone from the US had experience recieving substantial aid from Mcgill? also, do American Students face any other problems whether in Immigration or banking, telephone usage, etc. etc.?

thanks

There is not a lot of aid in scholarship but as a US student you may apply for US aid (loans -etc).
No other problems to speak of in banking, immigration, telephones, etc.
In fact, owing to a new law, an Intl student may now work a certain number of hrs OFF campus in Quebec.
If you need financial aid, I would contact McGill directly. There is a whole dept devoted to Intl students that could advise you.
Good luck.

Yes, you can now get aid from McGill if you're an international student. It's a new thing (as in a couple of yrs old). The max you can get is $10,000 for the year (I think it's for the year anyway). I don't know how hard it is to get, but I got $10,000 from them.

Also note, most colleges and unis have scholarships that arise during the year.

And, just in case you aren't aware, a year's tuition will be around 11k USD. With other expenses, you'd pay no more than 25k USD a year. That beats most American schools even with aid ;-p (I'm just telling you this in case you didn't know what the cost was. It's still expensive for those of us who don't have carreers, haha, but it is relatively inexpensive in terms of difficulty coming up with the money.

I would also recommend checking out www.fastwebs.com They regularly update scholarships throughout the year.

thanks for all the responses, i feel a little dumb not realizing that the costs on the mcgill website would be in canadian dollars. This certainly eases many of my concerns

thanks again,
j mcg

not really, the exchange really sucks right now. when i first got here, $1 USD = $1.25 CND. now it's down to about $1.08. You're basically paying in USD
