Harry Potter 7 Movie split-point revealed

So as you all know the 7th HP book is going to be split into 2 movies, one coming out in November 2010 and the other in Summer '11 (can't remember the month.) At any rate, the split point of the movies [i.e. the ending of the first film] has been revealed [by EW]. Note that if you haven't read the 7th book, you should NOT read on, as this post contains a lot of spoilers.

So Part I will end a bit after the Malfoy Manor battle, with Voldemort gaining possession of the Elder Wand.
In my opinion, this is perfect, because that's exactly where I envisioned it - there's a climactic battle, there's a dramatic death, a funeral, expository dialog and Harry choosing his path - and he has a drive to do so due to the death - and a cliffhanger with Voldy getting the ultimate weapon.
Perfect.

Plus for Part II there remains loads to cover, like the Gringotts break-in plan and execution, the search for the Horcrux, the battle, the expository scenes in the battle, Percy thingy, Neville and Hogwarts' state and explanation, the Room of Req. scene, Snape's memories, Dumbledore, the death scene, the resolution - and they're all extremely important and need to be done well for people to understand the films. Plus the first one has like the same amount of stuff to cover - wedding, Godric's Hollow, Dumbledore's family, the locket and camping stuff, Xeno and the DH, and Ron-Harry arc and then Malfoy Manor.

What do you guys think? Any HP fans on CC?

I think the split is a bit too late.

Unless this movie is rated at LEAST PG-13 or R, it’s not worth seeing.

Too much of it will have been cut out/edited.

^ Order of the Phoenix was PG-13, which bodes well for DH. It’s definitely not going to be rated R. A lot of people still think it’s a kids’ series :\ I thought Half-Blood Prince was a little ehh, so here’s hoping that DH will turn the movies around.

I think the split point is good. I don’t really remember the whole story anymore though…I mean, I read the book in a day when it came out and just sort of let it drift away in my brain.

well i think that they should’ve put the release dates of the two movies closer or have them come out at the same time.

^And how many people do you know who would watch them right after each other?
Probably only the fans who like it… a LOT.

I guarantee you it’ll be PG-13. Ron’s splinch scene alone will get that. And for the second - Mollie’s ‘*****’ scene. Anyway they’ve never aimed for a rating, it just happened that they were PG and PG13. It’s not like they tone it done on purpose, so HP is rating-independent.

R - no. Nothing in the books suggests that it will be.

It can’t be R, they’d lose half their audience.

Anyway, I think it’s a bit too late… that’s well over half of the book.

I liked the first and second movie–those stayed really true to the books and you can’t really go wrong with that–but I REALLY liked the 3rd and 4th, especially the 3rd. Then I thought it went downhill from there. Did the 3rd have a different director or something? I thought it was very well made.

The 6th was just okay, to be honest. The actress for Ginny made her seem like some awkward emo stalker, and Ian McClellan as Dumbledore was pretty good, but it felt like he acted more like a cantankerous Gandalf than a calm, smiling Dumbledore at times. There were lots of funny parts, but I just didn’t think it was all too good.

I think the split point for the 7th sounds perfectly fine. I just hope this movie isn’t anything like the 6th

I love it!

^^Yes, they got a different director, unfortunately. I agree that the 6th was very meh.

I think they’re gonna have to do a lot of crawfishin [backtracking] so as not to confuzzle ridiculous people that haven’t read the books my dad. And the battle scene has to be positively epic and include everything. I don’t think it’s too late.

Lol@Harry Potter movies.

^ Why Lol?

I think it was kind of stupid to burn the burrow in the Half Blood Prince movie. Where are they going to have the wedding now?

LOL according to Wikipedia, Steven Spielburg was offered the job, and he was thinking about making it animated before he declined. He wanted Haley Joel Osment to play Harry Potter’s voice… -.-

"Chris Columbus directed the first two films, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, while Alfonso Cuar

The third harry potter movie was by far my favorite, and in my opinion, the best of them.

I liked either the 5th or the 6th book the best. Never seen the movies past #3.

I agree with MIThopeful16. Cuaron should have directed them all! I think they should at least have the same director, imo. The differences between the films are jarring.

The 4th movie was stupid. I mean, some of it was good but that dragon chase wasn’t in the book, and milked for too much, but my biggest problem with it is that it didn’t include the QUIDDITCH WORLD CUP!! What the heck was that about? I was looking forward to it a lot [not the stupid introduction and then cutting to the after-party that they showed, but the actual playing of it]. So, I pretty much hated that one. I got the DVD hoping the QWC would be at least in the deleted scenes. but no. worst decision ever.

^Time constraints. The actual match had nothing to do with the plot, though it was awesome. And I think they thought the dragon scene would make up for it. It was good, and the chase was added because the movie needed some more action than just a dive and grab.
A lot of the magic of the world was lost after the 2nd film though. Remember the scenes where they’d just show awesome magic stuff?

David Yates sucks. I loved the first 4 films (though the difference between the first 2 and the latter 2 is just astounding) and hated the 5th and 6th, though the 6th had the good Dumbledore fire moment and death scene.

But yeah I would’ve been much happier if Cuaron or Guillermo Del Toro was directing the 7th and 8th films. The book is so good that Yates would have to be the worst director ever to mess up the films. It’s literally so easy to adapt it. It better be good.
The writers suck too. It’s like all they ever do is cut out parts of the book and copy the dialog into the script, word for word. Since there’s barely any cutting in these films, I wonder if they even needed a script. Could’ve just used the book for the lines.

By the way, to those saying the split is too early - trust me, you won’t think so in the films. Just because it’s past the half-point of the book doesn’t mean that it’s wrong. There’s so much to cover in detail past that point, and all the camping stuff involved a hell of a lot of “Harry thoughts” which can be shown in 2 seconds in the film and cleaved right off.

i liked the 6th movie
