Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows *Spoilers*

Yes, Harry was telling the truth.

As Ollivander explained in the middle of the book, a wand changes possession once its previous owner has been defeated in a duel (through death or disarming). So when Draco disarmed Dumbledore on the roof of Hogwarts (in the 6th book), he effectively defeated Dumbledore in a duel. Because of this, Dumbledore's wand, the Elder Wand, became Draco's wand. At this point, Draco has two wands: his blackthorn wand and the Elder Wand. Although Draco never physically touched the Elder Wand, it transferred ownership to him because Draco defeated its previous master.

Fast forward a year, and Harry defeats Draco in a duel at Malfoy Manor (by disarming him). So, Draco's blackthorn wand physically changed possession (because Harry now used it as his own) and the Elder Wand changed possession (because its previous owner had been defeated in a duel). Therefore, the Elder Wand now belonged to Harry even though he never physically touched it.

This is all unknown to Lord Voldemort because his was unaware of the circumstances in which Dumbledore died. He assumed that because Snape killed Dumbledore, he must have been the one to defeat him in the duel (although we know that it was Draco who actually accomplished this feat). So when Lord Voldemort kills Snape in order to gain possession of the wand, he is doing it under false impressions. The wand was never Snape's.

Ah I see... I ddnt remember Draco disarming Dumbledore....

yeah, Dumbledore froze Harry under the invisibility cloak instead of facing Draco, so Dumbledore sorta let Draco disarm him.

I liked the book.

Only thing that bothered me was mad-eye and hedwig's deaths so soon. It seemed like they were dumbledore's fault because he told snape to tell voldemort the date of the departure to earn voldemort's trust; didn't seem worth the risk (and the deaths) and dumbledore's not supposed to mess up that bad.

i think that was a huge issue in this book, nameless. Dumbledore was shown to not be infallible, so he is able to mess up that bad.

so for all you Harry Potter people...
I just went to a book session thing with Emerson Spartz (the mugglenet website person).

random I know.

I miss the infallible Dumbledore...

^ yea, me 2.

but, no one including dumbledore himself acknowledged that that was his fault; and along the same line it was kinda his fault that snape died 2. The whole thing with his sister and his greed in his search for the hallows didn't seem to be as "undumbledore-like" as those 2 things.

Does anyone think that the ending is a complete insult to Sirius everyone forgot about him.

Yes, Sirius's death did seem a bit random. How many times in the seventh book did Harry mention or think about Sirius? Perhaps James' middle name is Sirius. Still, I was expecting for Sirius to have some sort of role in Harry's final battle.

Even the damn mirror didn't have anything to do with Sirius in the end.

Yes. I wonder what Rowling's reasons for doing so were.

i just wish harry would have named his kid something better than albus severus. it just doesn't flow!

Sirius Severus?

He should have had 4 kids: James, Sirius, Albus, and Severus. Maybe Ginny II for a girl. :p

He named his daughter Lily...

He had a daughter?

Edit: Just referred to book, you are correct. :D

i love how ron and hermiones kid is randomly named "rose".

and i guess the dumbledore thing is sort of like how kids always think their parents are infallable and the grow up to discover that they're not.

but not only is dumbledore not infallible... he's not even a very good person (to an extent)...
the greater good, blah blah blah

I hope one day someone makes a book about Albus Severus Potter. Like, have multiple personalities and go on a killing rampage and be the next Voldy. O that would be AWESOME.

and then Neville's child will be the Harry Potter for the next generation. MOO HA HA HA HA
