Harsh March SAT Curve

I just received my detailed report in the mail. It seems that the curve (especially for math) were pretty tough. Is this typical, or was this administration of the test especially restrictive in terms of the curve? (Just so you know, I don't skip any, so if I say -3 that means that I got three wrong, so I guess it is really like a -3.75)

Math: -3 710
CR: -3 740
Eng: -4, essay: 10 710

i got 3 wrong in math, but because one of them was a fill in, i got a 720. still seems very low.

You got a pretty good score :)

Math and writing curves were normal. Reading curve was very harsh, but collegeboard determined the test to be easier. I thought it was relatively easier, but others on CC disagreed.

The Math curve was especially outrageous. I missed 2 questions and got a 740. The Writing curve wasn’t much better. Two misses plus an 11 essay equalled a 780. IMO this is totally unfair.

The March math curve was very much like the January math curve; both were unusually harsh compared to other SATs, although there have been harsher curves than that.

@dark knight…what would two misses and an 11 essay usually add up to…as in a score?

I would say a 760 or 770 at best

^2 misses and a 11 essay - I received a 780 for this in March. It might be a 800 on some administrations.

I don’t think the math curve has ever been harsher than -1=770, -2=740.

Math was really harsh I have to say. I took the Sat earlier in December, and got three wrong as well, and I got a 750 in Math. I got 3 wrong in March and it was a 710…
I think I did good on Writing but if this was with a bad curve then I’m set come October. With one wrong MC and a 9 on the essay I got a 760. I was so proud of myself…

the Jan and March SATs had a nearly identical harsh scaling in the math & reading. the writing section was an average scaling. My son’s scores:

Jan:
CR 3x=750
M 2x=740
W 4x, 9 essay= 700

March:
CR 5x=720 (careless mistakes; on his practice Q&As he was getting 800s multiple times in a row. thankfully the 750 from jan when superscored w/ the 2 sections below is good enough.)
M 1x=770
W 2x, 10 essay=760

no omits. the writing seems like an average scaling but the math & critical reading scores were about 30-40 points off an average scaling.

^Sigh. Anyway, there have been tests were math -1 was 760. I think the last time was 11/2009.
