Harvard 2024 Waitlist Thread

Just called the office and they made it sound like nothing will be coming until June :frowning:

That seems terribly late tho… what was the wording they used?

What do we think is up with Harvard this year? Why haven’t they released the yield yet? Is it possible that they’re not planning to go to the waitlist at all which is why there’s been no movement yet?

The woman I was speaking with said she can’t give a definitive answer but she said it was safe to assume waitlist movement will all happen in June. Hopefully that was just an answer to not get my hopes up and we’ll hear before the end of May

Sounds like a purposefully vague stock answer from the office. To @consuelabanana , Harvard has offered AO interviews to people on the waitlist, so it is safe to assume they are planning to use it this year.

Do people admitted off the WL usually get AO interviews while on the WL?

I know this sounds a little hypocritical since I just criticized this today, but my friend has a dad whose been an AO for 20+ years who said they are doing a full review of every candidate over again, including asking for interviews from those who didn’t get one. He also said the list wouldn’t move until the beginning of June.

I guess I was wrong about that earlier post; it was accurate.

Saddening news for us all, but at least we have a timeline.

(Again, I don’t blame you for not believing me, this is just what I heard)

On the bright side, I’m grateful that they’re actually taking the time to review each applicant in-depth instead of jumping the gun on decisions. Seems fair.

Honestly, it’s kind of ridiculous that they’re waiting this long to even start taking off of the waitlist. Low income students aren’t going to be able to switch schools in June after paying for not only the expected deposit May 1, but also for orientation, housing deposits, etc that are all coming up soon. That stuff isn’t doable for every family, even if it’s to go to a school like Harvard. I know some people still get off other waitlists in June, but usually that’s less common

Hey guys!

I know this is my first post here, so I might seem kind of suspicious. Created this account a while ago but never posted anything until now.

I just wanted to let everyone know that my friend got a call at 2:39 CT this afternoon and was told by our regional AO (TX) that he had been offered a spot off the waitlist! I’m not sure what that means about the overall process or whether they will take students in waves, but based on that, Harvard has started to pull off the waitlist so there is hope.

Just wanted to let you know, and I’m happy to answer any questions about it. I promise this is not fake – just wanted to let you guys know as I don’t know if anyone else has heard back yet. Not sure if there’s any way I can offer proof, but I’ll try my best to answer any questions.

Edit: To offer some clarification and some evidence hopefully, I was accepted to Harvard after being deferred EA and I had the same regional AO interview me in February. I’m posting on behalf of my friend to avoid any sort of stalking or harassment, haha. I know people have been saying the list wouldn’t move until June, but I promise this is completely true.

@lucadwong thank you for your response! Did your friend submit a LOCI? What are his stats like?

He did submit a LOCI. He had a 1580 superscore, 800 Math II, 780 US History, 770 Eco Biology. He attended a very prestigious summer camp (not gonna specify for anonymity) and is interested in studying Econ/Gov.

what kind of ECs did they do?

Seems pretty improbable that only one person heard today. Maybe this is a sign of more movement to come?

Let’s hope so. I can’t speak as to more waitlist movement, but I’d assume they’d take more than one person off today.

He has a lot of good ECs. State academic awards, leadership positions, sports captaincies. Can’t go into too much detail in the interest of anonymity, but I hope that helps.

Anyone else heard anything?

there’s usually a wave of rejections after the first wave. they’ll probably also call people tomorrow.

@cyl267 They call people tomorrow. I’ve read through the past two year’s waitlist threads and I didn’t see anyone get call on Wednesday. It’s only on Tuesdays with portal updates on Wednesday (for those who got in), and then a wave of rejections later on in the week. The only thing that seems pretty weird with this wave is that no one on here or Reddit got in, other than the user’s friend. Reddit and CC isn’t representative of the entire waitlist pool, but there’s usually around 5 people who report getting in during the first wave.

@Waswas321123 Is your friend’s dad an AO for Harvard? If so, its confusing that they said that, while some movement was made today? Is it possible today’s acceptance is an outlier and most decisions will me made later in June?

How can you be so sure that they call people tomorrow if people were apparently called today? Do you mean that the people who get called tomorrow will be rejected?
