Harvard 2024 Waitlist Thread

@ladysirahd Thanks for the update! How many do you think have been taken off at this point?

@Cjhastings322 Hey! I’m sorry but I can’t say for sure how many people have gotten off. All I know is that we’ve recently had one or two people join the group chat saying they just got off the waitlist. There are most likely more people who have gotten off too, but not everyone joins the group chat or Facebook page. I’ll be sure to update you if more people join!

The Harvard 24 Facebook group when up by 5 people. It’s gone up by 8 people since Tuesday. This is a complete shot in the dark but I would guess ~15 people. Not everyone joins the group, although I am inclined to think that most waitlisted students would in order to meet some people since the RD class has already been taking to each other for 2 months.

How many are usually admitted in the first wave? Might they be spreading it out more this year?

Some of the other Ivys like UPenn and Columbia are spreading out waitlist movement by doing a wave every 1-2 weeks, maybe Harvard is doing something similar.

I’ve been following this thread for a while since I too was on the waitlist, but I received a call a few days ago that I was admitted! I live in NYC, if that helps anyone.

@2020HAS Congrats! How much time did they give you to decide?

Isn’t it weird that they haven’t release their yield yet although they appear to start drawing off the wait list?

This whole year is weird haha

Agreed! Do you think if someone calls admissions tomorrow they would confirm that there has been movement on the waitlist? I saw someone did that for Dartmouth and was told that there has been no movement.

Do we know who exactly is making the calls, whether they are in Boston or in our area? Also, what times are they making the calls.

@cmount Usually its an AO calling from a 617 number (Cambridge) at around 3-4 EST. Of course, AO aren’t in office, so if they haven’t set up the office line to redirect calls than it might be from a cell. It still think it would be the regional AO making the call though. Also, waves of calls are always made all on the same day. They don’t spread it across the week. It’s usually on Tuesday.

Also, I took another look at the facebook group, and people have definitely gotten off the waitlist. Before Tuesday there was around 1340, and tonight there is 1351. The 1340 was holding pretty steady since May 1, and all of sudden it jumped up by 11 this week which could only mean there was an influx of admits off the waitlist. With those numbers, I would say there is double the amount of people who join the group which would be around 20-25. Although, the FB group has been adding people daily for the past 2 days, so it’s very possible the number is higher. Depending on what Harvard’s yield is, this may not have been such a small wave after all. If the yield is good this like, 30 admits off the waitlist sounds pretty reasonable. Of course, all this is up in the air since they haven’t released a yield yet. I certainly hope I’m wrong on this one!

The Harvard Crimson published an article on it. I don’t have the link but you can just search it up. Basically there is “no telling how deep colleges will go into their waitlist” my counselor thinks maybe there would be more sports this year. Last year they took 65 students hopefully this year they will take a hundred

Yay :))) Congrats! What’s your major if you don’t mind me asking??

The waitlist status tab on the portal disappeared on my portal. This means there will most likely be a wave of rejection today. Maybe? Anyone else get this? How about admitted waitlisters? Do you guys have this on your portal?

Wait, was the “Status update” and “An update to your application was last posted March 26, 2020” message and the “View Status Update” button gone from your portal?

That’s very odd. My ‘waitlist status’ tab is still there. Ahh, I’m not sure what this is supposed to mean :frowning: .

Can anyone that got in of the waitlist maybe check and let us know what they are seeing? Mine disappeared as well.

Is the “Waitlist status” tab the same as the “Status update” section?
