Harvard 2024 Waitlist Thread

I’m from NH and economics. Possibly committing to Yale!

Government/Econ, Maryland, Either UMD or Georgetown

Is anyone else submitting an additional letter of rec? Do we just upload them to the waitlist materials section?

Yes and yes

rather than uploading it myself onto the waitlist portal, i sent my recommender the link for additional letters of rec on the application confirmation email for them to upload it themselves

OOf yale is amazing !!

When you first submitted your Harvard application, there was a unique link sent to submit additional recommendations. Search it up in your old emails

is it alright if i submitted my additional letter of rec by using the unique link AND personally uploading it to my portal? my college counselor told me to upload it to my portal, Harvard said to use the unique link, so i did both. however, after reading this post, i’m not sure if i should have. this is a bit of a weird question, and i recognize how trivial it reads because what’s done is done. regardless, if anyone has any reassurance or spots a major issue please let me know.

Anybody know of, or heard, what the total number of waitlisted students is? I got into Yale and on that portal it says 1200 people are waitlisted which is about +250 from the historical average number of WL. Does Harvard waitlist around the same number as they admit?

Dear @hockey731,

Firstly a huge congrats to you for getting admitted to Yale. That is NO easy feat! You, like all the other people on this forum, should be SO proud of yourselves. Everyone on this form is committing to such amazing schools and will go on to lead amazing lives. I am sure.

However, out of curiosity, why you are pushing to get off the Harvard waitlist when you have been admitted to another ivy league and similar caliber school: Yale? I find it a tad bit presumptuous to reach for another school when you have been accepted to a very similar school…? Is there a particular concentration you want to focus on offered at Harvard yet not Yale?

I think a lot of these schools tend to be more similar than they are different. Plus, while I did not apply to Yale, I have heard it offers a super amazing residential housing system, beautiful campus, amazing students, and great professors? I would stocked to go to YALE and not put yourself under the stress of writing more letters and waiting…? It’s unnecessary work…? But, huge kudos to you regardless of your decision! It’s your own life after all.

Most likely Rice for me.

I guess it is the caliber of being accepted by Harvard. It is quite a different feeling. The elite out of the elite.

I’m from Colorado, majoring in computer science. I’ve already committed to Princeton!

@waveydavey and @hockey731 congrats to you both! would you accept the waitlist offer from harvard instead of yale/princeton?

If I got pulled off the waitlist, I would definitely accept!

Do you guys know anybody at your school that have been accepted?

It would definitely be a hard choice because I love Princeton and they offered me pretty good aid!! I guess it would just come down to cost if I were to get pulled off the waitlist. However, I’m definitely leaning towards Harvard because it’s been a dream of mine for a very long time.

I’m on the waitlist too, and so is another student from my school. For reference, our class size is just under 200 (rural NC) so it’s a little odd. I’m not sure what that says for the waitlist this year…

Also, did you guys submit your LOCI’s to the portal? And did you address it to your regional admissions officer? They wouldn’t give me the contact info for mine, so I assume that’s how I should submit it?

It is just my guess, but maybe they really want someone to come to their school from your region. In case the person they chose primarily doesn’t attend, they will have more choice from your region/area. Maybe a lot of people from your area didn’t apply? Not sure. But I haven’t heard of many waitlisted from my area quite yet.
