@compmom I’ve been following this thread for a while now and am just registering for an account, but i’m kinda tired of seeing this. It’s not the Harvard name or the prestige that keeps all of us on the waitlist for so long (I’m hoping). For me, at least, it’s the chance to push myself academically unlike I would be able to at my state university (beyond all of the other things Harvard has to offer). Not everyone had the money to apply to other ivies, so this is my last shot. Obviously, if I don’t get in, I’m very happy going to the state she chool I’ve selected. I can’t change that. I find it a little annoying that people keep saying break up with Harvard and just accept it.
People who have been on here a long time are just trying to say that it might be healthier in the long run to start really committing to the school you have enrolled in. This kind of limbo amidst all the other uncertainties from COVID can’t be easy.
The workload at Harvard is very intense. If that is what you mean by pushing yourself…
Good luck to all but hope your find resolution and peace soon, whether you keep waiting or accept and move on.
Hi Guys. Just my 2 cents based on all recent posts: Let’s stay away from negativity. It’s toxic! There’s no need to quash hope.
If H does not close its waitlist at end of day today, it is likely that WL offers will go out Monday/Tuesday of next week with the WL closing next Friday. Let’s hope that it stays open until next week. Positive thoughts to all. And, to @waitlistedsenior thank you for your positivity
I appreciate the advice, so I wouldn’t say that it doesn’t belong on this thread. However, I do have reasons for staying on the waitlist. I’m also not banking on it though. Harvard was one of the only schools I could afford to visit and apply to, and I loved it. I loved the libraries, the students I met, the weird traditions, the classes I was able to be a part of, etc. I visited Harvard admittedly for the prestige, but I’m still on this waitlist because I actually love the school. I’m very happy with the state school I’ve committed to though. Also, I’d spend half the amount I’m paying at my current school if I went to Harvard. Their financial aid is much better.
Hi, guys! Current Harvard ‘24 student. I just wanted to let you know that there appears to be current waitlist movement. A new student entered one of our group chats today and said that they just got in yesterday.
@ladysirahd thank you for the update!!
Anybody have any portal changes? Nothing here.
@Jward12 Exactly. I’ve been following this thread for a while, and @compmom has been telling people to move on from the waitlist multiple times. @compmom , someone had asked whether your child was still on the waitlist, and you declined to answer. To everyone still on the waitlist, stay hopeful! I was admitted off the waitlist to my dream school just this year, so it’s definitely possible. Don’t let anyone bring you down!
Well, if search @compmom and how much this person contributed to various threads over 13 years, you would find out that all the kids are in college or graduated college, so no - none of them is on the waitlist.
@ladysirahd thank you for the update! Based on your information, there are usually rejections that follow offers. Hoping it’s not the case today…holding my breath for all of us!
@Purplemonkey243 —soooo happy and excited for you!!!
@NascarFedex In that case, my apologies to @compmom for making incorrect assumptions. However, I still stand by my initial position of remaining on the waitlist if you truly want to attend the school (and if it doesn’t negatively affect you or your mental health of course)!
@ladysirahd do You know where the person who recently got off the Harvard waitlist is from?
I don’t know why you wouldn’t want to stay on the waitlist if you really want to go there. I think @compmom statement was more about moving on and accepting where you comitted. Then it is a nice surprise if all of a sudden you get that call from Harvard. Unless I am reading it wrong … I never had my kids on a waitlist waiting this long.
My kid graduated from Harvard a long time ago. As I said, I have been on CC a long time.
And financial aid is a really good reason to wait, if that is relevant.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Might I remind members of the forum rules: “Our forum is expected to be a friendly and welcoming place.”
This admissions cycle has been an anomaly, but let’s support each other instead of throwing shade at one another. The snark ends now.
Additionally, users cannot tell other users what they can and cannot post; leave that to the mods to handle as needed. the user who created an account simply to tell @compmom she cannot post has run afoul of ToS and I banned. And the 4 users who clicked agree on the post would be well served to review the rules.
I can’t believe it. No email closing WL. Still hanging on…
@LimboKid missing your posts!
Have a great weekend everyone.
@Mommabear1 hang in there! Maybe H not closing the waitlist tonight is a good sign. I think they’re waiting to see how many internationals defer to see exactly how many spots they have to fill!
Hey guys here’s my two cents. I’m an admitted student to the class of 24. Apparently over 300 people chose to take a gap year (myself included). This could bode well for the waitlist students. I know for a fact that the admissions officers are already going through the waitlist process. They started last week. Don’t lose hope, but also don’t think this is any sort of guarantee. Just posting this so that you guys can have some sense of closure or insight into this confusing and nervewracking situation. Hope it helps.
?
thank you for the update!!
On Friday, my child heard from a friend from his school who had been waitlisted by Harvard. The friend had been all set to attend a top 10 liberal arts college, but Harvard had accepted him on Friday (7/31/20), presumably off of the waitlist. I asked my son a dad thing to ask, “What about your friend’s deposit? Will he get that back?” My child did not know, of course.
