@Technoblade thank you for letting us know. It sounds as if H: (1) has not closed its waitlist but will by early next week; (2) they have not extended offers recently to WL kids and know that they are delayed in doing so and (3) if they don’t just close their WL, WL offers will be given this week or early next week (more probably since internationals have until July 31 to request gap years). Either way we should have an answer no later than early next week.
Anyone get anything? I saw the FB group and there were 5 new members last week. Don’t know what that means, though; it could just be students joining the group later.
@visreedhar: nothing CA
nothing in NY
kinda crazy to think that purgatory is almost over after all this time lol
All of you terrific and gifted young people need to break up with Harvard and appreciate the beauty of the school that already loves you.
it is not over until it is over…still have hopes
@technoblade - I AGREE! I cannot imagine that H would leave a WL open without the intent of at least pulling some people off of it! That would just be cruel and I cannot imagine that they would do that.
I agree some people will get accepted – we just have no clue how many.
What number would you guys estimate? How many are still on WL and how many do you think (approximately, of course, since we have no clue) could get accepted?
I think now that internationals can’t come to campus, H can still take people off the waitlist while maintaining a low density campus. My guess is there’s still 30-50 offers left to go out. Brown, Pomona and Georgetown have had waitlist movement recently. MIT closed their waitlist today saying they didn’t take anyone off this year (although MIT hasn’t used their waitlist in years so this is very usual). I guess we’ll find out what happens by the end of next week.
Not true. MIT does use it’s waitlist here and there. Not big numbers but still. Some years has been zero but not every year. True though about closing it this year.
From what AOs have said when you guys called them, it seems like H has almost forgotten about their waitlist.
The Harvard 2024 Facebook Group fell from 1291 to 1199, and it may drop somewhat more after the weekend once international gap year requests are processed (deadline tmr). Maybe the AO will revisit the waitlist and render final decisions next week should they want to maintain anything close to their typical 1665 class.
Damn, good observation. Sounds like we could benefit from this!
@waitlistedsenior I didn’t get that impression that they forgot the WL
O, so Harvard is just - entirely different from Yale, Princeton, MIT, Stanford, who all closed their waitlists with no movement at the end…?
I feel like the waitlist is Harvard’s security blanket. If there’s some weird condition that would cause Lots of first years to defer or change colleges, Harvard has a backup plan. Thats what the waitlist is. There won’t be any more movement unless catastrophe strikes.
Hi I’ve been following this thread but didn’t have a collegeboard account. as far as I know there hasn’t been any movement in Boston where I’m from. I recently got off the waitlist at Dartmouth and unenrolled from Georgetown, so that might explain Georgetown’s movement :’) I also searched instagram and twitter for acceptance posts and didn’t see any but instagram is hard to dig through so i might have missed it. Does anyone know if there is a public 2024’s page?
@Legacy_reject Harvard usually has different waitlist patterns than Yale, Princeton, Mit and Stanford. Compared to their usual waitlist patterns, there has been a lot less activity from H this year (even though their yield is slightly lower than last years). Also Yale, Princeton and MIT use their waitlist sparingly to none on usual years so it makes sense they had little to no movement this year. Stanford had a lot of waitlist movement despite closing their waitlist near the end with no movement (they probably wanted to wait until the last wave had to respond to their offers).
@LovinIsEasy The FB group most people are referring to is the Official Harvard College Class of 2024 group. It’s a private group but we can see how many members there are.
A month ago, that group was at 1360 and now its at 1199. That’s a drop in 161 people and it could be even greater than that. Not to mention Harvard already had 60 spots to fill if they wanted to fill their class (given the initial 81% yield). Before, the main reason why H probably wouldn’t take people off the waitlist is because of the desire to maintain a low density campus but now without international students, they can reduce density and take students off the waitlist to fill their class. Stay hopeful guys, one more week left!
Harvard wants low density on campus but also may be looking at the assumed uptick in students fall 2021 with gap year students starting along with the usual number of admits.
I am really curious why anyone is still waiting on Harvard as late as August. Why are you so anxious to go to Harvard? I just don’t get it. Is it just the Harvard name?
It would be so much better for you to just commit to the school that you are already enrolled in, better for you and for the schools that are expecting you to attend.
