hi, i’m an indian female in the class of 2021. i have single legacy to harvard and i plan to major in poli sci. my leadership in extracurriculars and work experience are relatively strong in politics sci, and i currently have a 1500 on the sat (hopefully will increase a bit) and a 4.51 weighted gpa.
out of all the schools i have visited, brown, harvard, and columbia are the reaches that i feel most drawn to. would I be wasting my circumstances if I didn’t SCEA to harvard? how much do alumni donations matter (none from my family)? i understand that this is highly circumstantial but do you estimate whether my likelihood of getting accepted on ED to Brown/Columbia or SCEA to Harvard would be higher?
Any elite college (with acceptance rates often in the single digits) should be considered a reach. Nobody can/should even attempt to predict admission chances to these schools.
When the time comes to apply, be sure to take the time to also search out a group of match and safety schools that appear affordable (run net price calculators) and that you would be excited to attend.
thanks for your advice. I definitely consider those schools reaches; don’t worry! I have been consulting difference statistics like the legacy admission rate and the early action admission rate and I was just generally wondering if those two rates could be used— not to calculate specific percentages but in comparison with another school.
Are you an international student or US citizen/resident? If you are an international student, Harvard enrolls about 5 students a year from India.
