Harvard and Myspace

That does sound pretty stupid. Most of the time when you google a name, even a name that you think is usual, you get quite a few entries.

Just as an exercise, google yourself and see how impossible this idea really is.

Thousands of applicants = Unlimited # of Private Blogs & Journals

Do they really have the time? I think not. Besides, almost everyone can google in their name and see at least one other person that shares the same name. Apparently, I have a bunch of PhDs from different colleges across the country. It would take quite some time just to locate the real me. Tracking down thousands of applicants would be like counting the stars in the sky.

i highly doubt for admissions.

but for the job offers, it's a possibility. my college newspaper recently ran an article about how employers would look through our facebook profiles.

(facebook = myspace for college kids)

If I were an adcom, I wouldn't google everyone, but people who I felt were really teetering on the edge, I might...

adcoms don't do that. it's too unprofessional. what if they try to find a 17 year old girl and instead got a rapist/murderer/pedophile-in-disguise-as-a-17 year old?

and it would be a pretty ignorant thing to do to put all your deepest secrets/feelings/moments into myspace/friendster. you never know who's reading it.

I think that they wont do it...

Even if they do, I have only a blog with my name on it. Big deal. Its no secret and if they find it.. ill be only to happy as I like that blog and am happy with the response to it :)
