Thank you and that’s crazy!!
Yes! It was. At some point all the decisions will be made and everyone will be able to move on with the next phase, but the waiting is brutal.
Fanatic, this is a very different year. They’re probably over-enrolled for the freshman class by about 20%, assuming their usual yield plus the very large number who deferred from 2024, due to Covid. I’m hoping that you have put all the effort that you need to into choosing housing and soon classes for the school that you have chosen from those that accepted you. For your own well-being, you just have to focus on falling in love with the school that you’ve accepted and for which you’ve sent in a deposit. You’re waiting for something that this year is very unlikely to happen for anyone.
Does anyone know when we can expect the first wave of decisions? Or has it already started…
It definitely has not started. To be frank, it probably won’t start this year, for the reasons parentologist outlined.
keep in mind that everything on here is speculation. the previous reply to your post is very pessimistic, which far more reflects the attitude of that individual than any actual expertise. at this point it’s a waiting game, whether that be good news or bad. we just have to wait it out. i’m choosing to ignore the cynical comments like the one above me. this year is unprecedented, and the process will be over soon. just wait and see!
Not being pessimistic, just realistic. From reddit: “A confirmed harvard admit on zeemee said that she got an email about harvard’s class being already very crowded this year (last year’s gap studs) so there’s probably gonna be 0 admitted wl studs.”
They admitted a full class on top of gap years. You guys need to stop conflating realism with cynicism–it’s really best for your own mental health.
I didn’t even tag you in my comment. a “confirmed admit” getting an email confirms absolutely nothing about Harvard’s class size this year. Not one thing. The admissions office would never release this kind of important information in a random email. Nor do you have any idea what is best for my mental health, but I am oh so grateful for your concern about me! I choose hope as I think optimism is a better way to approach the world than the opposite. You may have different values, and that’s fine, but don’t claim to know some sort of greater truth than the rest of us. If we want to practice realism here, we should acknowledge that the reality is that none of us knows the situation and we are all creating theories based on unreliable information from various sources. That is realism. I don’t plan on getting off the wait list at Harvard and attending in the fall; I am fully ready to attend the school to which I’ve committed. But writing Harvard off before we’ve heard anything is unwise.
No need to get so agitated, haha. Of course nothing is confirmed, and no one can be 100% certain. But clinging onto a waitlist can be exhausting, let alone Harvard’s during a year where they’ve admitted a full class + gap years.
Of course I do not claim to know about your paradigm/mental health in particular, which is why my comment was directed at the entire thread, and not just you. But if optimism floats your boat, I guess that’s what works for you.
my husband says there 350 students in waitlist this year. I am not sure where he found it. Putting so many students in Waitlist is not fair in my opinion if they can’ fill in 5-10% of that. Anyway, at this point everyone is smart talented in this waitlist so wherever they go they will do well. My kid is going UCLA, where you guys have committed to ? Just curious…
I heard from a reliable source that Admissions is meeting Thursday. My thinking is the earliest for waitlist movement would be Friday if there is movement.
Fingers crossed
I understand the AO will call you if you are off the WL, BUT do you get notified if you didn’t get off the WL/rejected or some kind of update in the profile?
Yes, of course
Is there anyway to know that AOs have seen my uploaded materials?
My son committed to George Washington University, Elliott School of International Affairs!
Any updates on the admissions meeting someone said was supposed to happen today?
i saw on reddit someone called harvard and they said they will begin to reach out to students early next week… seems like they may have a bit of space after all
Thanks for taking the time to update and share this information that “something “ may happen because someone has called Harvard admissions and that was the response they received. Obviously we are still in the dark but it would be good to know the position.
I heard the same thing when I called on Thursday. Was told they were deliberating still, and would contact WL students in a few days.
