thats odd, they said they were meant to contact WL students early this week. Wonder what this means

Hope is causing a lot of angst. I think this year it might be more comfortable to not have hope and move on. I doubt many are coming off the waitlist, if any. I hope this thought reduces stress. But others have voiced this already so sorry to repeat it again.

Just want to put this out there… I was on the Harvard waitlist last year and still hadn’t heard anything by late June so I’d recommend getting comfortable w ur school (I withdrew so it could be even longer)

colleges will not tell you their waitlist plans over the phone.

Make sure your LOCI is good, re-read it a few times, then submit it today/tomorrow

Does anyone know what time they normally call if you do get off the waitlist?

I cant say if this is policy, but my kid was called during normal business hours in the afternoon.

When – within the last couple of weeks?

They were accepted in a prior year.

Im sorry, I should have clarified. It was not this cycle.

The class is much more than full. It is over-enrolled, probably by an extra 20%. This is why it’s best, at this point, to focus on moving forward, and getting excited about the school to which you have sent a deposit.

how do you know this

Because Harvard accepted its usual almost 2000 for a class of about 1660 (usual yield is 85%), plus they have 350 from the class of 2024, who deferred. So they are expecting about 2000, instead of 1660. Their usual housing scheme is to house all the freshmen together in the yard, and then into houses for the subsequent three years. That means that despite the fact that they have 350 students less in the sophomore year, they cannot easily just house the extra 350 freshmen in the empty rooms. So, for this reason, I don’t think that they’re going to take any from the wait list, unless it is to fill a specific need.

Even if they let in any students, the # is bound to be very, very small and highly targeted. As compmom said, for the vast majority (if not all) of those on the WL, there will be no spot offered, so it’s best to not have any expectations.

Are there any waitlist interviews this year? In past years, waitlist students were offered interviews by admission officers.

I feel like these won’t be as prevalent as more applicants got interviewed this year due to the ease of online interviews via Zoom. As a result less information might be missing that would he provided with interviews.
