Really nervous about my application. What do you guys think?
Objective:
SAT I (breakdown): I took the new SAT btw: Overall:1460 Math: 710 Reading:750 Writing: 6-6-8. (I think I’m going to retake it though.)
ACT (breakdown): I took the act twice. both times I got a 32 composite. But if superscoring: M:34 S:34 E:34 R: 32 W: 32
SAT II: Haven’t taken any yet. Is it required?
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.89
Weighted GPA: 4.137
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable):16/401. My rank has to do with the fact that a lot of the honors/ ap class people take study halls and minimum amounts of classes, while i take 3 after school classes but i could definitely do better in this field i guess.
AP (place score in parenthesis): Most of my ap classes are to be taken my senior year and AP scores aren’t in for this year unfortunately. AP Chem (didnt take) AP Lang (?? I think I did pretty well though) AP Euro (4). I would’ve taken two more ap classes this year but scheduling issues prevented me from doing so.
IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A
Senior Year Course Load: Jazz Ensemble, Marching Band, Chamber Choir, Steel Band, AP Calc, AP Lit, AP Human Geo, a Computer Elective, Honor’s French 4 (The hardest that my school offers, I will be taking the ap test though), P.E., Dual Credit Government, AP Bio. (3 of the music classes are after school btw)
Extracurriculars:
Freshman- Madrigal Singers, GSA, Spring Musical, some irrelevant leisure clubs as well.
Sophomore- Marching Band, Madrigal Singers, Pit Orchestra.
Junior Year- Marching Band, Madrigal Singers, Pit Orchestra, A Capella, Steel Band. (I was sadly rejected from NHS the judgement was a bit biased imo. at least I was honest on my application. meh
Senior Year- Hopefully NHS, Key club, Marching Band, Madrigal Singers, Pit Orchestra, Steel Band. (Obviously I haven’t necessarily confirmed this but it’s basically guaranteed.
I’d like to mention at this point that I’m a piano player and that I’ll be going into my 11th year this fall. It takes up a large portion of my free time.
Volunteer Service:
I do a lot of performing within the community. (Hospital and Retirement Home stuff.)
I offer to accompany most of the music kids for free but I’m often paid. I have however done things unpaid as well.
I really was looking forward to volunteering at my local soup kitchen but it legitimately just closed. looking to volunteer though.
Job Experience:
Accompaniment. Took up a huge chunk of may of my junior year. Nothing official.
I’m trying to get a summer job to accompany the summer dual credit course I’m taking.
Accomplishments:
A lot of piano performance awards that I have to sift through.
I was 1st chair alto two at honors all state chorus this year.
Demographic Stuff:
State: Illinois
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Biracial. Asian/White
Gender: F
Income Bracket:<35,000
Another thing that will probably come up in one of my essays… I do suffer from really extreme social anxiety (I.E. I get physically sick around people. It’s really embarrassing). But it’s been an extremely hard year for me trying to sit through all of my classes every single day, and it’s led to a slightly negative trend in my stance towards schoolwork since I’m too busy having my mind flooded with other things such as whether or not people notice that I’m getting sick (I get nauseous- you get the idea). I’m trying to get medicated and treated though, so I hope that doesn’t mess up my grades senior year much.
So my main concern is that although I’m occupied 3-4:30, 6-9 most nights with extracurriculars, they’re all music stuff. I don’t really participate in academic extracurriculars because there really aren’t that many at my school besides NHS. And it just didn’t work out due to a misinterpretation within my application. I know a lot of this is explaining my shortcomings, but I dunno. I don’t feel really accomplished at all and honestly have no idea how I compare to others that are applying at ivies and more prestigious schools. Please be honest and let me know if i seem like a worthy applicant.
It’s so weird to me how academic a lot of people applying are. I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing on my part. I mean, I’m very accomplished academically, and I’ve spent a lot of time studying, yet I still feel like I’m of a lower intelligence level compared to others. My personality is laid back and humorous, I don’t sound like a smart person when I talk, but I’m reasonably well versed when I try. Do any of you know if this is an indicator that I won’t be a good fit in a more academically rigorous environment? I’m definitely no slacker, I do try very hard and put forth my best effort when it comes to school. I just honestly don’t know.
Anyways, if anyone actually reads this and takes the time to get back to me I would be extremely appreciative.
( I apologize for my messy formatting)
