Harvard Class of 2023 Waitlisted Discussion

@David5700044 around may 29-31

I was rejected but didn’t receive an email. I already commented, but I was an asian female w an engineering major. Didn’t apply EA. Thought winning a major award to put on my loci plus being low inc and first gen would help but it’s ok  Good luck guys! A few more within this community will probably get off soon!

About the math major thing–not true. I applied RD as a female from the West Coast for math. I got the email at 2:17pm (PST) about a portal update, and I was rejected.

thanks @skieurope i think the post I was trying to make falls within the perimeters of the policy you indicated, so what should I do? Thanks!

okay, I was trying to use a google form to help the waitlist community get a better picture of the population of the waitlist applicants, but since it appears I can’t attach the link to the form, can you PM me your answer to the following:

Where are you on the waitlist?
1.
Waitlisted - Still on the waitlist
2.
Waitlisted - Accepted off the waitlist
3.
Waitlisted - Turned down waitlist offer
4.
Waitlisted - Denied/Rejected off the waitlist

I started under an hour ago and have over a dozen responses; I will try to post info once I get more data. Thanks!!!

Original post…

Hey everyone! I know most of us are curious about the size of the waitlist pool, how many people are able to get off, how many turn down the offer to be on the waitlist, etc. SO,… I made this google survey so the waitlist community (and future waitlist applicants) can have a better scope of the waitlist (or at least the illusion of comfort).

Please use this link to complete the survey:

Please feel free to share with others, who you know are on the waitlist. I will try to publish the results here on CC as I get good bits of data.

Thanks and best of luck to all. You will do great anywhere you go.

It did not conform since it had a prohibited link

@skieurope alrighty, thank you for checking!

Just created an account to join the fun. Math major here and still on the waitlist. I haven’t received any email and there are no changes to my applicant portal.

My friend was just admitted to Harvard today. Their class size is full for the Class of 2023 but they offered her admission to the Class of 2024. Therefore, she will be taking a gap year and then starting at Harvard in the fall of 2020.
Because of this, I believe the class size is full for the class of 2023 and they are moving to the class of 2024 now.

God. Dream is over.

Did the admission officer explicitly say that the Harvard class of 23 is full?

@jcd881 did the admission officer explicitly tell your friend they will not be taking anyone else for C/O 2023?!

For the other peeps, if this verified, what does it mean if Harvard uses its z-list? Will they not take anyone else for class of 2023 and only do 2024?

Also at @jcd881 was your friend a legacy?

UPDATES ON MY SURVEY

Responses: 28

Waitlisted: Still on waitlist (64.3%)

Waitlisted: Accepted off the waitlist (0%)

Waitlisted: Turned down waitlist offer (0%)

Waitlisted: Denied/rejected off the waitlist (35.7%)

The population for this survey is the reddit community. Also, factors to consider, is that people who are still in consideration for Harvard are more likely to be active on reddit and thus participate in the survey than those who turned down waitlist offer or were denied/rejected off the waitlist. Also, applicants without access to technology or are unfamiliar with reddit (such as college confidential exclusive members) may not be fairly representative, and I’m sure there are other factors as well that might play a role, so take this survey with a grain of salt.

Your dream is not over! Was rejected too…with perfect scores on sat, act, multiple subject tests, and all 5s on numerous aps. Led multiple clubs, national merit finalist, presidential scholar contender, and numerous other awards in science plus years of community service and fantastic lors. I feel your pain but, sincerely, a quality education isn’t exclusive to elite universities. Will be attending affordable public university with eye on the prize: a fantastic education that will lead to graduate school. You can realize your dreams, and will. Try to eliminate all the phony prestige that somehow has attached itself to academia. You got as far as you did because YOUR ARE a talented academic with incredible potential. Hoping all the best for you!

My friend was not a legacy.

They did not explicitly state it, but since they’re already using the z-list I would strongly suspect that would be the case.

I would also like to let you guys know that wherever you all end up going, you are going to do amazing things. I can’t imagine getting as high of scores and GPA’s that you all have achieved, it’s really quite remarkable. I am going to a college with an 80% acceptance rate, so I’m nowhere near the level you all are. If you guys don’t get into Harvard, don’t worry. You can always transfer, apply for grad school there, etc. I’m sure you all will find your way and I wish you the best of luck.

the dream is still alive
