Harvard Class of 2023 Waitlisted Discussion

Has anyone who has been waitlisted been contacted from Harvard?

@KazinSB I called the admissions office and the LoR should be sent through the additional materials upload link in the email that was initially sent to you after your application (it’s something like “Confirming your application to Harvard”)

My daughter’s AO told her that she could send her LoCI to him by email your him to add to her file, which is what she did.

What is the difference between the Z-list and the waitlist? How can you tell the difference between the two?

the Z-List is admission to next year. It’s a forced gap year. You can do anything but attend another university. My daughter is one from last year. She was waitlisted and didn’t find out she was accepted as a z lister until June 29. She decided to take the offer and has had an amazing year off; traveling, teaching skiing, doing non-credit college work and volunteering. What a gift to have a year off, no testing, no applications, no papers, knowing you’re going to Harvard in a year! She just attended Visitas as a 2023 and is super psyched to get going this fall.

info from last year’s waitlist…May 14 was the first day anyone heard anything. People were called. There was no indication of a change to the portal or strange glitches until they were told there was a status update. After this, a few more would be notified once a week, but not always, sometimes it went 2-3 weeks with nothing. At the end of June, there were still people let in off the waitlist and accepted to the z list. Throughout this time, people WERE notified that they were declined. Admissions during this time was a black hole of information, except to say “they are still in committee”. This is the most professional admissions committee in the world, they are not going to leak any information, or tip their hand to a guidance counselor, athletic director, or certainly not an applicant who calls on the phone. I know it’s grueling, use this forum to support each other, but try and knock off the rumors and speculation (not one “I heard” post came true last year), people lie and make stuff up just to tweak y’all (especially on Reddit). Make peace with the colleges that want you now. Try and relax for at least the next 2 weeks…

Is anyone in the Facebook group? If so, how many people are in it?

Hello,

I am trying to find details as to the email address where my D can send her LOCI update for wait listing this year at Harvard. I read in earlier post in another thread that folks sent it to the undergraduate admissions email address as well as the department email address. Please let me know those email addresses. My D applied for Engineering school at Harvard. Much appreciated. Thanks.

You upload it to the admissions portal

@thebly : Yes my D plans to do that but was also thinking of emailing as others suggested. Thanks.

Harvard prefers that directions be followed and that documents be uploaded to the portal. There is no need to email, but if she feels compelled to, she should send it to the general emailaddress.

Thanks @skieurope!

My kid attended 2 different alumni welcome parties for admitted students (once for SCEA admits and then another one for all admits after RD came out). An alum helping to host the event told the admitted student group attending that it was their understanding that admissions is anticipating a yield this year between 82-85%. 1950 were admitted this year. The 1950 obviously is the only factual info anyone actually knows at this point. I hope the waitlist limbo is not consuming anyone’s life. If one was waitlisted at Harvard it is very likely that one was admitted into at least one if not more other exceptional schools. Embrace that school. It’s awesome because you are.

Alums usually do not know that info. There is no way Harvard will have a 85 yield this year. That’d be their record. I think they’ll have lower than 82 as well

Correct. They don’t know. As stated, the only factual info is the 1950 offered admission. The rest will be revealed when the process concludes and of course that’s the hard part. Waiting through the actual process…

Does anyone else see a update in the portal dated yesterday? I’m freaking out…

Nope

@lebowskidude What did it say?! I am intrigued.

@David5700044 At the bottom of the “application checklist”, there’s a “received wait list update” dating for 5/3/19. Honestly, I’m worried. If it was good news, I think they would have called me. Maybe it’s just my transcript?
